Completing 100 KM to create brighter futures for children and communities in Nepal!

My Story

This November 15th around 9:30 in the morning our CWS Dutchies team will set out to race the Trailwalker, a 100 km endurance challenge on the famous Maclehose trail in Hong Kong scaling Hong Kong’s toughest and highest mountains. Whilst the race regulations allow for teams to complete the Trail in 48 hours - our aim is to finish within 24 hours. The only way to be successful is to cross the line together as one team! Who are we?

Mariken loves Hong Kong’s outdoors and instead of drinking a coffee at 6am, Mariken starts the day with a walk over three hills to work. So about time to do something serious with all this training! She tends to just drink Tailwind during long-distances, so nutrition-wise some experimentation is still required.
As of September this year Joosje & Frank can call themselves Thru-Hikers after finishing the Pacific Crest Trail together. After 4,270 km in 5 months, and having done the Trailwalker twice already they cannot be more ready for it. However, the running part wasn't trained with the backpack of 15kg.. so some steps to be taken there.
Kim started a new hobby 1 year ago with a first swimming lesson: triathlons. However, after participating in two Ironman70.3's this year, it's time to get back to the hobby she fell in love with when she moved to Hong Kong: trail-running. Physical fitness-wise she is ready, however walking for more than 8 hours is something she hasn't done before!

Besides the physical challenge completing the trail, our team has another very important milestone to hit: we are dedicated to raise funds for this well organised and purposeful charity ‘Child Welfare Scheme' (CWS, www.cwshk.org) in Nepal. By running the trails, we hope to raise the necessary funds for CWS to continue to build infrastructure in Nepal supporting disadvantaged and vulnerable children and communities. CWS’s aim is to run specific projects that focus on protection, education and healthcare to empower children and communities to create a brighter future for themselves.

The Dutch CWS teams raised over HK$ 200,000 (€22,000) in the past two years. Generous donations contributed to the improvement of the Primary School infrastructure and Play and Sports Materials for 6 primary schools, refresher training for 10 Primary School teachers, and Book Corners for 12 Primary Schools. We really hope that also this year, you will support our team effort to get through the 100 km race, for the benefit of less privileged children, through the excellent work of CWS.

As Joosje has seen with her own eyes during her visit to CWS Nepal: ANY donation, large or small, goes a long way!
We are very grateful for your support and invite you to become a sponsor of our team!!
