My Story

Investing in women’s economic empowerment sets a direct path towards gender equality, poverty eradication and inclusive economic growth. Women make enormous contributions to economies, whether in businesses, on farms, as entrepreneurs or employees, or by doing unpaid care work at home. But they also remain disproportionately affected by poverty, discrimination and exploitation. Gender discrimination means women often end up in insecure, low-wage jobs, and constitute a small minority of those in senior positions. It curtails access to economic assets such as land and loans. It limits participation in shaping economic and social policies. And, because women perform the bulk of household work, they often have little time left to pursue economic opportunities.
여성의 경제력 강화를 위한 투자는 성 평등, 빈곤 근절 및 포용적 경제 성장을 위한 길을 마련해줍니다. 여성은 회사에서, 농장에서, 사업가 혹은 고용인으로서, 혹은 무급 가사 노동을 통해 경제에 크게 기여합니다. 하지만 여성들은 상대적으로 빈곤, 차별 및 착취에 더 노출되어있기도 합니다. 성 차별은 여성이 불안정하고, 임금이 낮은 직업에 그치는 것 혹은 여성이 고위직에서 아주 적은 비율만을 차지하는 것을 의미합니다. 이러한 차별은 토지 소유권 혹은 대출과 같은 경제적 재산을 획득하는 것을 막기도 합니다. 차별은 경제 및 사회 정책을 수립하는 과정의 참여를 제한합니다. 또한, 여성이 대부분의 가사 노동을 담당하기 때문에, 경제적 기회를 찾을 수 있는 시간적 여유가 부족해지기도 합니다.

How you can make a difference?

Every dollar makes a difference. Take a look at how your donation will help:

  • $30 can support a migrant woman to access important legal information
  • $75 can deliver a leadership programme for young women
  • $150 can provide financial literacy and business training for single mothers, allowing them to run their business independently

4. Career advise as a young professional in the UN system (this is my third year!) (30-40 USD)
- I'm currently finishing my third year in the UN system and I have a lot to tell you! I cannot give you advice on "how to get a P2 job" yet (because I haven't been there yet) but at least I can give you some practical tips if you are dreaming of working for the UN in the near future! (Or even tips for internships ;-) ) Let's talk for an hour and figure out what you can do. FYI my areas/specialities are 1) gender equality; 2) ending violence against women; 3) coordination; 4) monitoring and evaluation; 5) campaign/communications.

Or even if you don't need my support (that's sad, though), you can still support women to earn!
