The health of all life on Earth depends directly or indirectly on a healthy ecosystem and ocean. We depend on this complex web of life for essentials like water, clean air, fertile soils, and a stable climate.
Coral reefs provide food sources and employment for millions of people all over the world, particularly in coastal regions. They serve as a significant carbon sink, aiding in the fight against climate change. However, like in many other regions of the world, coral reefs in Malaysia are increasingly threatened by human pressures such as overfishing, marine debris, sewage pollution, and coastal development, despite their ecological and economic importance. Climate change and global warming also pose a natural threat to them. Over half of coral reefs have already been lost and what remains of them is at risk of rapid extinction.
If nothing is done, they may go extinct in our part of the Earth. As Malaysian youth, it is our responsibility to educate ourselves about our country's wildlife and marine environment and to actively participate in its conservation.
As such, I volunteered and participated in this fundraising to raise funds for Charisma Movement's flagship project - Wildlife Conservation Project, in which the funds will be used for coral research, coral restoration, coral mapping and coral planting at Teluk Keke (Pulau Perhentian, Terengganu).
Your kind donation will help in sustaining our marine life and help us make this volunteering trip possible.
Thank you so much in advance for your support and generosity!
