This year is my third consecutive summer visiting the remote Dong Xiang county 东乡县 in Gansu province 甘肃省 to teach school children. Since 2017, I met the same kids grow physically and intellectually. I love seeing the students laughing and playing, but feel sad that they lack many necessities, like warm clothing and shoes are often torn. They also don't get to shower regularly due to lack of running water in their villages.  

At these village schools, we taught them simple English, did artwork, worked on Lego cars, and even danced together - it was so satisfying yet humbling to see the children's eye lit up and enjoying these activities.   In Gansu, high school education is a luxury to many, especially girls who are often neglected and forced to marry at an early age.  This year we met the Scholarship recipients and their parents and they were enormously touched and appreciative of the support Changing Young Lives Foundation (CYLF) has provided to them.
