About to get your HK$2000 and wondering how to best spend the cash? I know just the right place - donate to HandsOn Hong Kong to support their Covid-19 relief program, including delivering emergency items, care packages and checking in with self-isolating elderly in need!
My Story
Our COVID-19 relief ‘Emergency item list’: since the local outbreak, HandsOn Hong Kong has been in close contact with each of our 100+ under-resourced charity partners to understand their most critical needs. We compiled these and immediately published their required emergency items. By sharing these with the broader community, we have been able to direct tens of thousands of masks, hand sanitizers and alcohol wipes to these charities—as well as bulk deliveries of rice and food.
Our COVID-19 relief ‘check-in phone calling’ program: This program connects volunteers with self-isolating elderly in need of emotional support, and has received considerable uptake. Our team is quickly now working to expand this program in collaboration with five of our elderly centre partners.
Our COVID-19 relief ‘care package delivery’ program: This program brings necessity food items, masks, alcohol wipes and hand sanitizers directly to the doorsteps of low-income families and elderly, who are facing financial hardship and unable to safely access these themselves. Within two days of launching the first phase of this program on April 14th, nearly all spots for the next month were filled—with more than 150 volunteers mobilized. By the end of June, they will have made over 2,000 doorstep deliveries to support the city's most vulnerable. Now you are also supporting one of the expanded sessions of the delivery program.
