Cambodia
is a developing country that is still on the road of recovery from
its years of turmoil from wars and merciless killings. It was not
that long ago that an entire generation was nearly wiped out from
senseless killing and massacre. And a new generation now is deprived
of proper nurturing and care. Education is the means to bring this
generation out of poverty and give them hope.
Children in Cambodia have many barriers standing between them and a good education. Poverty is one problem, but so is a lack of education spending by the Government. Of Cambodia's 15 million people, half are under 22 – and so there is a large school age population. Education statistics are still poor by world standards. According to UNESCO, 1.6% of Cambodia's GDP is allotted to Education. This ranked 170th in the world as western countries spend around 5.5% to 6.4% on education.
The
Cambodian Government needs and looks to foreign help in many areas of
its development. And in education, NGOs and external foreign
investments are gravely needed to spearhead the development of this
young and struggling nation.
In 2015, the Cambodian Government recorded 57,0000 out-of-school children in the country.
Wisdom
Nest School is one key project to do that in Baray.
Wisdom Nest School
aims to provide quality formal education to children of the Baray
District of Kampong Thom Province. In doing so, it will meet the
UN's Convention on the basic rights of every child to education and
assist the Cambodian Government efforts to get out-of-school children
back to the classrooms.
