Malaysian Social Research Institute (MSRI) is an NGO that serves refugees, asylum seekers, and marginalized communities in Malaysia. Our clients that comprise of individuals from Middle East, North Africa, and Central Asia (Palestine, Syria, Afghanistan, Somalia, Iraq, Sudan etc.) are currently making Malaysia their temporary home while they await permanent resettlement in either United States, Canada, Australia or any other resettlement countries. As some of you may or may not be aware of, Malaysian Law does not permit them to work legally, thus, stunting their ability to generate income. MSRI provides monetary support in order to partly finance their medical, livelihood needs, and food support. Milk packets (for new-born babies, young children, family milk) is part of what we offer for food support. For individuals with children, sufficient stock for milk is definitely needed and highly requested. We are currently facing issues due to our limitation of funding. We are currently unable to allocate money for food support purposes, thus, only relying on donations to ensure we have enough food supplies to be given out to our clients in times of emergency.

MSRI gives out around 80-100 milk packets every month. However, on months where no milk donations are received, we have to restrict the amount given out and sometimes we are not able to provide any milk packets at all. This situation would highly affect families with new-born babies and young children as well as for individuals that could not afford to buy food because they would drink milk as a meal replacement (some clients are suffering from malnutrition).

Our hope is that through this Milk Drive, we are able to consistently provide milk packets in order to ensure our clients are able to have a healthy and well-nourished diet and preventing further health issues, financial needs for medication, and hospital visits.
