Projek BacaBaca works with children from B40 households by providing them with individual, tailor-made reading sessions to enable them to read at grade level. A dedicated reading coach works with one child to read in Bahasa Melayu and English. This project was developed to support children in catching up on the learning they’ve lost due to COVID-19. It focuses primarily on children aged between six to nine years old to ensure they can read at grade level before they complete primary education. This project is unique in terms of its accessibility in the sense that for children with a good internet connection, the reading sessions are conducted via online platforms such as Google Meet / WhatsApp video calls. For those children with limited / no internet connection, the reading sessions are conducted via phone calls to ensure uninterrupted sessions. Printed reading materials are sent to the children ahead of time. The individualised, high dosage tutoring that Projek BacaBaca provides will assist students in catching up on their reading. This will in turn increase the odds of academic success for these students.
