Rotary Club of Damansara Heights

What started as an Interest Group has now officially evolved into the Rotary Club of Damansara Heights (RCDH). The club was founded on 13th January 2017. Meetings are held at 7pm on alternate Tuesdays at the Royal Commonwealth Society in Damansara Heights, KL.

How did it all start?

In October 2016, four Rotarians got together & called on some friends to assist an NGO with their annual Xmas charity event.

As a result, an Interest Group was formed and after a few meetings, the young (and young at heart) got together at short notice to assist the NGO during the event held at the Berjaya Times Square in Dec 2016. The Xmas Cheer had orphans, senior citizens & physically challenged participants from all races & religion. It was truly a fun filled “ Muhibah” event.

To date, the Club is made up of 28 fun-loving members from various backgrounds & industries. We share a common objective that is to make a positive impact to communities in need, with the hope of leaving a sustainable legacy!

The RotaBlooms Project

RotaBlooms (http://rotablooms.com/) is a community service initiative by the Rotary Club of Damansara Heights, a flagship project to empower women, especially single mothers, by training them with the right skills that will allow them the dignity of earning an income and caring for their families.

Life can be challenging for single mothers more so for those who are living in poverty. Many face financial challenges, the burden of having to work to support the family as well as being the sole nurturer and caregiver to their children. Financial independence is what these single mothers are struggling to achieve. By assisting these mothers with an opportunity to learn a skill that allows them to work from home, we indirectly support families and most importantly their children. This means they can earn a living without compromising on quality time spent with their children.

The Rotary Club of Damansara Heights has taken the initiative to set up a Floral Training Centre and Floral Shop in order to help these women. This innovative concept is structured around an e-commerce platform that allows the efforts to be 100% sustainable as the proceeds earned from the sales will be channeled into training and creating more skilled women in our community. Once they are trained, RotaBlooms also offers them the opportunity to become florists on the RotaBloom business portal, which means they are on the panel of florists that works from home, designing bouquets based on orders.

RCDH looks forward to hearing from you to explore working together in meeting our local community needs.
