Malaysia has been rated as one of the world’s worst countries for plastic pollution. Most of our plastics are dumped, a small portion burnt and a very tiny fraction (2% in 2013) recycled.

This year, Angkatan Kejuruteraan Islam Universiti Malaya (AKIUM) attempts to save one of Malaysia's most beautiful beaches, Pantai Bagan Lalang. The project #PickupTrashChallenge x Explore Your World is a project which aims to instill awareness in students in the engineering faculty on the importance of conserving the country's most important gem, the ocean, at the same time allowing students to take in the beauty of nature in the midst of the busy student life.

We believe that by taking this small step, we will be able motivate society to preserve the ocean as well as improving Malaysia's source of income which is tourism. The funds will be used for transportation, bonding activites between members, food and inventories such as garbage bags,  as well as to help the publicity crew publicize this event.

We thank all of you for helping and we believe that this is the first step towards the betterment of the environment.
