“Ten little fingers, ten perfect toes, fill our hearts with love that overflows.” Babies are the precious gifts to every parents.
One in every ten babies are born too soon worldwide, with increasing rates including Malaysia. Prematurity, or delivery before 37 weeks is a leading cause of newborn deaths, and complications related to premature births are a top cause of mortality in children under-5 years of age. Although survival rates have improved in Malaysia, its associated morbidities remain immense, where lifelong complications may be seen. Prematurity is a leading cause of cerebral palsy and chronic lung disease in childhood.
Most of us in the team are healthcare workers. We spend most of our time treating the medical conditions of these babies. Now we wish to celebrate their health with them, and for them! Tiny Warriors Project is a collaborative project organised by the NICU of University of Malaya Medical Centre, the Perinatal Society of Malaysia, and UM Medical Society (MEDSOC). This project aims to promote awareness regarding complications of prematurity to the public. Families of children born preterm often need support from friends, family and their employers. We aim to spread the awareness of this need for support.
Every year in November we gather a team of kind, caring, helpful doctors, nurses, medical students to organise our World Prematurity Day event, dedicated to our preterm warriors. With much limited resources, we are unable to afford hiring any event company, and therefore we find ways and seek YOUR help to support us to hold this campaign, dedicated to our precious tiny warriors Let us all celebrate the lives, for them the warriors who have thrived through the stormy babyhood, and are now standing strong as the backbone of our nation!

Who else’s lives to celebrate if not for our future leaders? =))
We appreciate any form of donation, cash or in kind.
