Get Plastic Sustainable Tour

Every single day, tonnes of plastic waste is thrown in the forests, rivers and oceans of Indonesia.

Mismanaged waste leads to a host of environmental issues, including harming sea ecosystems as the trash inevitably ends up in the ocean. This poses severe threats to coral reef, fish, turtles and whales.

What if instead of throwing our plastic trash in nature, we could turn it into a resource?

This is exactly what Get Plastic is doing. We have built a pyrolysis machine which effectively and safely turns plastic trash into fuel, ready to put in your car or motorbike.

That’s right – we use a pollutant (plastic) to create a resource whose extraction is highly problematic (petrol), thereby reducing the amount of crude oil we need to pull out of the ground to supply the global oil market. We think that is a huge win-win!

We have already developed this new, cutting-edge technology. Now, the next step is to spread the message and introduce the technology to the public. We need your support to do that!

Our Project

You can make a difference by donating to support our next big project, our ambitious environmental campaign Get Plastic Sustainable Tour. In this 6-month educational outreach campaign we will drive 1737 km from Bali to West & East Nusa Tenggara using only fuel generated from our pyrolysis machine.

We will stop in villages along the way, hosting educational workshops for locals about the issue of plastic pollution. We will let them experience first-hand how we process their waste using our machine, demonstrating the surprising value of plastic waste right in front of their eyes.

East Indonesia has great diversity in land, wildlife and culture. It is increasingly becoming home to top tourist destinations in Indonesia. The increase in travellers and tourists in these locations increases the chance of waste management problems in the near future. We aim to prevent the problem before it arises by educating the locals on proper waste management.

The impact of this campaign will be :

·         Increased public awareness of the plastic pollution problem.

·         Prevention of waste mismanagement in growing tourism hotspots.

·         Increased public awareness about the innovative Get Plastic solution – our pyrolysis machine.

·         Promotion of Get Plastic’s important work which is crucial to gather future support for the organisation and ensure the organisations’ sustainability. This is essential to continue our work and enable our vision of making Indonesia free from plastic pollution.

Our Experience

GetPlastic has already successfully done a Sustainable Tour, and our current project is going to be an even bigger version of this. The first sustainable tour was in 2018, where we drove 1200km from Jakarta to Bali with our iconic Vespa which was fuelled by the pyrolysis machine. Like our upcoming tour, we hosted workshops and educated local people about plastic pollution and our solution. We were proud to receive the REKOR MURI award for our innovative and impactful project.

Now, we want to upscale the sustainable tour: make it longer, more impactful, and targeting a different part of Indonesia. This time, we will be running not only our Vespa  but also two other cars on plastic fuel which will really prove how viable our novel solution is.

How will my donation be used?

Your money will go towards the expenses of our ambitious 6-month campaign which is run by core staff and Get Plastic volunteers. With your help, we will be able to meet our goal to reach local people throughout our workshops, create a number of local art & culture shows as well as hosting movie screenings about plastic waste.

100% of your donation will directly support Get Plastic’s important work during this tour to share knowledge in West & East Nusa Tenggara about plastic waste management.

You can help us by giving what you can and sharing the campaign widely. Every little helps! Thank you very much.
