The danger single use plastic, give chance for our next generation... not for me, not for you but our generation, let's do it together!!!

My Story

Greenpeace is present because this fragile earth needs a voice. We need solutions. We need change. We need action. Founded on the belief that a billion acts of courage can spark a brighter tomorrow, reflected in each of our environmental campaigns. As you know, it takes about 100-500 years for plastics to disappear naturally. In fact, plastics are a real threat to the environment. Still more aware of the adverse effects of using plastic bags? Let's read the simple facts below: 1. 24% of the 19,000 tonnes of solid waste in Malaysia is plastic 2. The classic bag is made of polyethylene which is a petroleum-based product. 3. About 60 - 100 million barrels of petroleum are used each year to produce plastic bags worldwide. 4. About 500 million to 5 trillion plastic bags are manufactured and used every year worldwide. 5. And only 1% of it is recycled. 6. Plastic bags take 100 or 500 years to be disposed of naturally. Soluble toxic substances in the soil can affect our food chain. 7. Every year, more than 100,000 sea turtles and animals die from plastic bags. 8. Every year, more than 500 billion plastic bags are used worldwide. More than 1 million are used every minute. 9. Plastic removed annually is enough to circulate the world 4 times. 10. Plastic bags are also used by glue absorbers where they contribute to brain defects and are seen as immoral. Plastic pollution is an inevitable global issue. This is because plastics are widely used in various everyday activities around the world. Its widespread use has made plastic a major contributor to pollution in the oceans. Global statistics show that five trillion plastic bags are used every year and 13 million tons of them are dumped into the sea. Meanwhile, it is estimated that one million plastic bottles are purchased every minute and 100,000 marine life is killed due to plastic every year. In Malaysia alone, an estimated nine billion plastics are used by Malaysians each year, and most of them end up in the ocean. This situation is very worrying because plastic is a non-perishable component. Plastics can only break down into small particles and decompose when exposed to ultraviolet radiation, oxygen, high temperatures and microorganism activity over a period of time. Damaged and dissolved plastics in the sea will be microplastics (plastic particles between five millimeters and 0.1 micrometers) and nanoplastics (smaller than microplastic size 0.0000000009) that will pose a danger to the diversity of marine life (from plankton to large animals such as seabirds) , turtles, dolphins and whales). These plastic particles are not only a direct hazard when consumed by animals in the oceans, but the chemicals contained in the plastic will also absorb into the tissue of the animal. This situation will certainly pose a major threat to the sustainability of marine life and human health when consuming seafood sources contaminated with microplastics and nanoplastics. Small plastic particles that remain in the oceans for centuries have not only threatened the marine environment, but have also disrupted the entire marine ecosystem, disrupting the clutter and disrupting the food chain system in the oceans. Join us to fight our environment for our next generation, don't wait until mother earth destroy!!!
