My Story

We are a group of students from Heriot-Watt University Malaysia who are passionate in advocating awareness about the plight of our sea turtles. We aim to help in the conservation of sea turtles whose habitat and species are threatened and endangered by imprudent human actions through our non-profit fundraiser, Turtles in Trouble.  

There has been a staggering decline in the sea turtle population due to environmental exploitation of reefs, pollution and illegal egg poaching. WWF Malaysia states that Terengganu saw a steep decline in sea turtles nesting grounds. The state that once hosted one of the world’s largest nesting grounds in the early 1950s is struggling to see a single nesting ground in sight decades later.

Sea turtles play a significant role in maintaining healthy reef ecosystems hence the purpose of this fundraiser.
