My Story

Update @ 31 October 2019

Unfortunately , Daniel has suffered a shoulder injury and will have to postpone the swim around HK Island till next year, either spring or fall 2020. We will keep you posted once a date has been set.

Daniel Vanderhave and Mayank Vaid will attempt the HK360 Swim as a tandem solo team around HK Island on November 21, 2019.

Means both will swim the whole distance together. It’s a 45km distance. Starting in Sau Ying Pun Swim Shelter the clockwise swim will circumnavigate Hong Kong Island and finish at the same sport where it started.

The team is raising funds for Ocean Recovery. The funds raised would be used to help add new features, capacity, outreach and training for the Global Alert app. This would be a huge benefit, and would allow Ocean Recovery to mobilize communities so they can tie all the dots together via stakeholders who can use it.

Who Benefits from this Fundraising?

Ocean Recovery Alliance is an organization focused on bringing together new technologies, solutions, ideas and projects to help with issues that negatively impact the health of the ocean. One of the organization’s main focus areas is plastic pollution, both in regards to finding ways to clean what is already in the ocean, and inspiring ways to prevent its ecosystem impact on land. Ocean Recovery Alliance focuses on broader ocean issues and results-oriented solutions by bringing together alliances and collaborations of different resources and expertise for particular problems.

“To address the problem of increasing plastic pollution flowing to our waterways and ocean, Ocean Recovery Alliance has created Global Alert, an innovative, online tool that increases interaction and connectivity to plastic pollution by allowing users to report, rate and map trash hot-spots in their waterways and coastlines via mobile devices and a web-based platform. This information and engagement broadens awareness, aggregates information flow, and spurs solutions to reduce plastic waste flowing from our rivers and streams, and into the ocean.” - source Ocean Recovery https://www.oceanrecov.org/global-ocean-alert-system/solution.html
