This
Run, it just needs to happen!
Running around
Peninsular Malaysia has been attempted only once before in Malaysian running
history. In 2002, 65 years old Nasir Abas ran 1,754km in 30days, running an average of 58.47km/day.
In June 2016, 5 ultrarunners including Allan Lee, Lee Chun How and me, ran 880km from Padang Besar at the northern border of Malaysia and Thailand, to Johor Bahru Custom Building, which is at the southern border with Singapore. This Trans Peninsula run took us 14 days, averaging at 62.5km/day.
In 2017, together with the other 8 runners, 3 of us ran across Peninsular Malaysia in Coast to Coast 444km in a single stage multi day format under 120 hours.
The next logical challenge is certainly running around the whole of
Peninsular Malaysia. And we can’t wait
for too long. It just needs to happen.
So,
3 of us, formed the Organizing Committee in the middle of 2020, and
successfully invited 6 more runners to join in this challenge. It is a
challenge indeed, the greatest anyone of us has ever attempted as the run this
time is over a distance of 2,234km in 31 days (72 km/days). 480km longer than
the previous record of 1,754km in 30 days. This will be a Malaysia Book of
Record attempt.
Of course, such an attempt serves as a perfect platform for us to Raise Fund for Orang Asli in Malaysia (via Jabatan Kemajuan Orang Asli-Jakoa), to Promote domestic tourism by highlighting tourist attractions that we will run through along the way.
While these will probably
be the most memorable and crazy 31 days, it’s our humble hope that images of 9
of us running on the road in Dec 2021 will inspire people around Peninsular
Malaysia for many years to come to adopt an active and healthy lifestyle. By completing this seemingly impossible run, people will be empowered with the positive attitude of "I'm possible"
