Care Corner Singapore celebrates its 40th anniversary this year. To commemorate this milestone in a meaningful way, we are raising funds for five special causes close to our hearts. Join us in ‘40 Days of Care’ from 2 Aug to 10 Sep 2021. Let’s come together to forge new beginnings, give hope and bring care to our beneficiaries in a tangible manner.
About the Cause
Goal: Provide individuals or caregivers with mental health support and counselling
Amidst COVID-19, we saw a rise in mental health needs. Individuals coping with the economic fallout, stress from adapting to the uncertainty of work arrangements, caregiving with tight safety measures and home-schooling students. Being cooped up indoors also raised family tensions and strained relationships. Counselling not only enables us to learn more about ourselves but acquire new skills to improve communication, problem-solving and relief from mental health challenges. By defraying the subsidised counselling fee, we intend to support caregivers from disadvantaged backgrounds or individuals who have lost financial stability.
En (25) was introduced to our INSIGHT mental health team for counselling. She had always found painting to be a source of strength and a way to express herself. This changed when she could no longer cope with life’s unexpected turns. She struggled to understand her depression, anxiety, bad memories, self-harm urges and suicide ideation.
With counselling sessions, she felt more capable of managing intense feelings and keeping herself safe. Trusting her counsellor, En received the practical and emotional support given to her, and attended her medical appointments diligently. With guidance, she revisited her love for painting as a healthy mode of expression. Equipped with new perspectives and tools, En found her voice and life’s purpose again.
There are individuals and caregivers like En who need a safe space when life throws a curveball. We can be a listening ear and journey with them through their challenges. One individual at a time, one problem at a time.
