Dongxiang in rural Gansu province is one of the most deprived autonomy counties and one of the least literate ethnic minority regions in China.
Due to financial burden and culture, Dongxiang girls usually get marry at very young age and most dropped out of school before completing primary education. To encourage the parents to support the schooling of their daughters, in 2017, Changing Young Lives Foundation (CYLF) launched the 'Spring Blossom' Scholarship Program to subsidize Dongxiang girls going back to school. Through better education, these girls are empowered to change their destiny.
In 2018-2019 school years, CYLF extended the program to benefit boys in need as well and have helped a total of 140 girls and boys return to schools in Dongxiang.
In the coming school year, we target to raise HK$350,000 to support 200 Dongxiang children aged 8 to 16 to continue their studies for another year.
