We build strength, stability and self-reliance through shelter.
Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit organization that helps families living in poverty build and improve places to call home. We believe everyone deserves a decent place to live.
We recruit volunteers and raise funds to build homes for those who need them in 17 countries across Asia. Working alongside home owners our volunteers help build strong, stable homes, helping families lift themselves out of the cycle of poverty now, and for future generations. Over the past 40 years Habitat for Humanity has helped over 22 million people build or improve their home.
Hong Kong programmes
In Hong Kong we are celebrating our 15th anniversary this year. As well as supporting work overseas, we provide vital renovation services for low-income families living in public housing in Hong Kong.
Last year, nearly 1,000 student and corporate volunteers helped to repair homes of low-income households, the elderly or disadvantaged groups through our Project Home Works. Habitat Hong Kong also takes part in the annual Habitat Young Leaders Build campaign that engages youth volunteers in advocating, raising funds and building homes for Habitat.
Raising funds for post-disaster reconstruction
Habitat Hong Kong also fundraises for disaster response efforts in the Asia- Pacific region and beyond. Once a disaster has been confirmed, we seek funding to support those affected. Grants from the Disaster Relief Fund Advisory Committee of the HKSAR government have enabled Habitat Hong Kong to respond to disasters in Asia- Pacific region. These included reconstruction in the Vietnam and Sri Lanka Floods in 2017, Fiji following Cyclone Winston, Vietnam’s central floods in 2016 and Nepal Earthquake 2015 and 2013 earthquake in Sichuan province, China.
