We know it's a difficult time to be in and most of you are feeling isolated and anxious; but did you know that most of our athletes with Intellectual disability have experienced this all their life? You are unlearning a lot of things including the way you have lived your lives. All of us are stuck at home, we are not going to work every day, missing our friends and most of us are feeling isolated and alone during this time.
This is an abnormal time for us who have never lived like this.
But for our Athletes, this has always been their normal.
We urge you to help us change that this #GivingTuesdayNow.
There are as many as 200 million people with intellectual disabilities (PWIDs) in the world but they are one of the most under-served, misunderstood and stigmatized populations in the world. They do not enjoy equal opportunities, whether at the workplace, in schools, access to quality healthcare, or on the sports field.
How Your Support Helps
Your support helps Special Olympics Asia Pacific level the playing field by enabling full social participation for 1.9 million PWIDs across 35 countries - through sports, leadership development, health and fitness, research and changing societal attitudes.
What is #MyNormal?
#MyNormal is a public awareness and fundraising initiative by Special Olympics Asia Pacific aimed at surfacing common everyday issues faced by PWIDs, which have now been experienced by many as their #newnormal because of the global pandemic. We hope to invite more people to be part of this global movement to help us change their normal.
