As Malaysia enters its fifth week of the Movement Control Order, the negative effects of COVID-19 sees a significant rise. When it comes to healthcare, similar results are being seen as in previous epidemics, where healthcare resources are sidetrack compared to routine health services. This is only worsening the already much-limited access girls from marginalised communities experience when it comes to accessing basic health and hygiene products.
Therefore, Women’s Aid Organisation (WAO) sees a need to address this concern by delivering self-care packages to a total of 230 girls from marginalised communities. These self-care packages include products and items that will help maintain their health and hygiene in order for them to live a healthier life during the MCO period. We are fundraising in order to be able to distribute these self-care kits to these girls.
WAO is fundraising through a video challenge with a focus on 2 main issues: maintaining health through exercising and empowering girls’ rights. Donations raised from this video challenge will be used to deliver self-care packages to 230 girls aged between 12 to 17 years old from marginalised communities in Malaysia, who are currently experiencing difficulties in maintaining their health and hygiene during the MCO period.
