Update:  June 23, 2019

We still have 48 pitbulls that NEED YOUR HELP!

We are currently managing the conditions of these pitbulls given their cruel history of dog fighting.  Due to their age and medications administered to them during their dog fighting phase - most of them are manifesting bone, kidney and liver problems.  Our aim right now, is to make these pitbulls comfortable for the few remaining years that they have.

Please help them.

Update:  Compassion and Responsibility for Animals (CARA) would like to thank the donors.  On August 1, 2017, we have started our center renovation that would help to support the care and maintenance of our dogs.  The total cost of the construction is P 302,194 ($5961.00).  We now have a newly built clinic, volunteer area, improved shelter for dogs, personnel areas.

CARA aims that these surviving dogs will have a chance to live normal lives. The cost of running the sanctuary is PhP 230,000 (4600usd) a month or 2.07M (41400usd) until December 2017. A major portion of this budget is for food. The dogs consume 3 large sacks of dog food daily. (We mix this with rice and vegetables.)

We appeal to your kind heart to donate any amount (minimum 200php -type "200" in the amount field) to the cause or better if you will sponsor a dog for a month. At 2500php (50usd) you will be able to fund for the care of one pitbull. You can choose a pitbull to sponsor see their images below.

THE STORY:
In March 2012, an estimated 266 pit bulls were rescued from a dog-fighting syndicate.

The 266 rescued Laguna pit bulls presented overwhelming challenges for the rescuers. Many of the animals were found in very poor health. They were cruelly chained to posts buried in filthy mud with nothing more than cut-out steel drums for shelter. They were terribly malnourished, many with wounds inflicted during dog-fighting and were suffering from exposure to the elements. Despite medical care, a lot of dogs perished or had to be put to sleep to end their sufferings, a result of the poor living conditions and lack of medical care in the hands of the syndicate.

CARA Welfare Philippines (www.caraphil.org) has been taking care of the pit bulls since their rescue. With some borrowed funds and volunteers who put in a lot of hard work, CARA was able to relocate the surviving animals to a sanctuary just a few hours’ drive from Manila. Today, 92 remain and we continue to care for them daily to keep them healthy

CARA also needs to nurture the sick ones back to health. After their rehabilitation, we aim to find suitable individuals or families to adopt them. So far, thirty six of the dogs have been adopted and are now living much happier lives.
The Laguna pit bulls, or LPBs, need help. All the volunteers have taken time off from their regular jobs to care for the animals. The LPBs are innocent victims of human cruelty–our priority is to ensure the survival of the dogs.
