Who are we helping?
Village
Malaria Workers (VMW) in Cambodia walk 5km or more daily in the heat and rain to
administer anti-malarial drugs, perform blood tests to diagnose malaria and
advise villagers to use mosquito nets. VMWs play a vital role in reducing
infection and deaths from malaria.
Malaria
is a deadly disease caused by parasites transmitted through mosquito bites.
Drug resistant malaria is a serious problem in Cambodia, Thailand and Myanmar.
Poor education and lack of access to timely healthcare has led to deaths that
could have been avoided.
What are we doing?
SID’s Cycling For Cycles campaign aims to raise awareness
and funds to purchase bicycles for VMWs in Cambodia. The bicycles will allow the VMWs to perform their
duties more easily as they can cycle instead of walk. This will allow them to cover
greater distances and more villages on their daily rounds. Each bicycle
costs RM500.
Our target is to purchase 50 bicycles for RM25,000.
