My Story

After being a tutor in Hong Kong for a short amount of time, and being lucky to have grown up in the western education system where you have a chance to ask questions and question everything. I saw how competitive kids in public schools have it here, and the learning system is very much "sit here and listen to what I have to say". Children are given a class ranking based off their results, each child in their class will know who is number 1 all the way to who is last. This is already a big impact on the child's perspective and creating an atmosphere whereby kids are always competing to beat each other to get that spot. Alternatively, it can create another negative impact, if I'm not number 1 or my rank in the class isn't high, what is my self worth? For a child that is heartbreaking to hear, kids should not be compared to each other. I chose this charity organisation because one of my dreams is to help open a charity myself that can help children in Hong Kong. This charity, Changing Young Lives Foundation, offers free classes in cooking, music, sports to give children an opportunity to do something they are great in for underprivileged children. I want to help them fundraise to give them ability to help even more children, fund even more classes so they can reach their dreams.

Over the next three months, I will be creating small events to fundraise. I've always had a fear of swimming, and still cannot swim to this day. But one big thing that I will overcome for this charity is that I will learn how to swim within two months and then swim a lap of a swimming pool without any help.

The mission is simple, $60,000 HKD in 3 months. Let's change some lives.
