Champions for Impact are fundraising for Habitat for Humanity Hong Kong

My Story

In Hong Kong 1.35 million people live below the poverty line, that’s 20% of the population. Families with low income, especially the elderly and those with disabilities, are living in public rental housing with no means of maintaining or repairing their homes. Some apartments have not been painted for over thirty years and families are living with water leaks, mould and paint peeling off the walls and ceilings.

We have decided to partner with Habitat for Humanity, a global non-profit housing organisation, to improve the living conditions for one vulnerable family and help them to have a decent place to call home. Habitat for Humanity began in 1976 as a grassroots effort on a community farm in the U.S. and now operates in more than 70 countries. In the past year, Habitat has helped more than 3.5 million people build or improve their home, with the help of more than 2.1 million volunteers from all over world. Habitat addresses poverty housing issues through home construction and renovation, advocacy, skills training, water and sanitation facilities, disaster response and microfinance. 

We will be spending Friday 9 November working to renovate an apartment as part of the Habitat for Humanity’s Project Home Works programme. We will remove old and peeling paint, clean, make minor repairs and then prime and re-paint the walls and ceilings. 

We are asking for your help to raise enough money to make a donation and cover the costs of the renovation work, including the materials and the contractors who are there to help and guide us. Donations over HK$100 are tax deductible.

We will be applying to Fidelity International to match the funds we raise so we can double our impact. The more we can raise, the more families Habitat can help! Thank you so much for your support.
