Personal Challenge

Dear Friends After more than 3 wonderful years as Executive Director of HandsOn Hong Kong I am leaving my full time position and moving to an advisory role as a volunteer. Although it's the tradition for departing staff to be given a leaving gift, I'm being disruptive so I'll be the one giving a leaving gift instead. Please help me raise funds to give back to this amazing organization that has given me so much. Thank you for your support. Caroline

My Story

HandsOn Hong Kong is a fantastic organization mobilizing and empowering our community to meet pressing social need in Hong Kong through volunteer services.

Did you know that one in four people in Hong Kong live in poverty, surviving on HKD140 a day or less?  These are the people who are the focus of HandsOn Hong Kong's work, as there is much that we can do to help them through volunteer programs.  HKD140 does not go far in a city with one of the highest costs of living in the world

Without HandsOn Hong Kong's work, deserving children from underprivileged backgrounds would be missing out on after school tutorial programs and educational outings, elderly people with low mobility would miss out on visits from caring volunteers, and food, soap and other useful items will miss out on being redistributed to those who need them, and simply go to waste in the landfill.

I have had the privilege to work for HandsOn Hong Kong for the last 3 years and now I would like to give back, with your help.  I am giving HKD5,000 to HandsOn as my leaving present to the organisation that has given me so much.  I'm proud to have been part of HandsOn Hong Kong's amazing journey of the last 3 years where I've met so many wonderful people, had so many unforgettable experiences and learnt so much about Hong Kong, myself and life in general. During this time our output and revenue has almost tripled. Will you help me to double - or even triple - my gift to HandsOn Hong Kong and reach my target of HKD10,000?

I would like to ask you to choose something to miss out on, so that HandsOn Hong Kong's beneficiaries don't.  To give the HKD140 (approx £12 / USD18 / Euro17) that is the maximum daily budget for people living in poverty in Hong Kong, what would you need to miss out on?  5 small coffees from your favourite cafe? A rush hour Uber journey?  A couple of after work drinks?  Wearing an outfit one more time before having it dry cleaned?

Many of you have told me what a great job I've done at HandsOn Hong Kong.  It's now time to put your money where your mouth is so my leaving gift to HandsOn Hong Kong will be one to remember!
