Dear friends and family, today(19 Dec) is my birthday and one of my biggest wish of all time is to propagate the harmony and respectful coexistence of wildlife and human on the planet. Growing up in Malaysia, I am shamefully unaware of marine mammals roaming in our marine environment until recent years through MareCet. MareCet (pronounced ma-rei-set) Marine Mammal Research & Conservation is the one and only (as I know of) marine mammal research organisation in Malaysia. The 5 main species of marine mammals that they study and can be found in Malaysia are Bryde's whales, dugongs, Indo-Pacific humpback dolphins, Irrawaddy dolphins, and Indo-Pacific finless porpoise – Please refer to the campaign gallery to have a sneak-peek and recognise the amazing marine mammal inhabitants in Malaysia’s water! Marecet is run by a small yet competent and passionate team of researcher-conservationists as a non-profit and non-governmental organisation. However, despite the limited capacity of the organisation, their work span across scientific research, capacity building, educational outreach, community engagement, and involvement in multi-level policymaking process.
