Gotong Royong means working together in Indonesian. United with this spirit, hospitality partners in Karimunjawa have put their heads together to help Karimunjawa’s citizens receive basic living supplies. So many of them have lost their jobs as a direct result of the Coronavirus. Other than fishing, tourism is the main industry on the island, meaning a huge range of people have lost their jobs.
This is where our initiative comes into play and we ask for your help as little or as big as possible. Will you help us to support this beautiful island through this tough period and make a donation to provide locals with basic food and care packages? No cash donations will be made to ensure that your donation is well spent.
These last few weeks the Gotong Royong team of volunteers has been working hard to promote our fundraising campaign as much as possible. The first round of packages was distributed on Thursday the 21st of May, in time for the Nation's largest holiday Eid-al-Fitri. A holiday that is heavily focused on forgiveness and taking care of each other. The second round will be on the 30th of June.
We are so grateful that, thanks to your donations, we can help at least 300 families in Karimunjawa. However, since the island will remain closed for tourism a while longer because of a new outbreak in the port city Jepara on Java, we hope with new donations in the next weeks to be able to help many more families.
