Many of you will know I have been volunteering to help prepare meals for those in my community who have been hard hit by COVID-19.
Phuket's tourism industry is almost non-existant (many believe it will be Oct 2021 before there is any sign of a turnaround) and this has impacted family-owned businesses and the luxury-condo developments (they employ migrant workers from Myanmar), leaving these people without a livelihood.
The owner of a restaurant I like to go to (The Corner, Jens Klein) started preparing meals on 14 April, and called this initiative Helping with Love
(HWL). His restaurant prepares up to 400 meals a day - they are packaged by volunteers like me and distributed from about 5pm each day. We also have baby diapers, baby milk, water, rice and various toiletries.
Local government offices in Cherngtalay have supported our initiative since day one and provide personnel to check temperatures. We require one meter distance between each person to comply with the social distancing requirements and we also provide sanitising hand gel.
We can all do our part in order to overcome this unprecedented and unfortunate global crisis situation. So please, if you are in the position to help - no matter where you are.
Donations will be used to buy water, rice, noodles and the meat (chicken and port) we add to soup and curries.
