About Appeal

Aner, his wife Cherry and their 4 Children Ngae Ngae, Glaycee, Glaytu and Whan live onsite at BEES Elephant Sanctuary in Maechaem, Chiang Mai, Thailand. Aner is the head Caretaker at the Sanctuary and is the full-time Caretaker of Mae Kam the first Elephant to retire at BEES Elephant Sanctuary in 2012. The hut that they live in is the first hut the sanctuary built for Caretaker staff in early 2012. The hut is made from Bamboo and wood has gone through a lot of wear and tear. The hut was not designed for a family but more as simple staff accommodation. The family has never once complained and always made it work. Originally Aner had come to work at the sanctuary on his own about 18 months into Mae Kam's retirement, but he missed his wife so much and wanted her and the children to live at the sanctuary after a couple of years of traveling back and fourth on the long journey to Mae Hong Son to see them. When the family first moved in all that time ago Burm and Emily (Founders of BEES) replaced the roofing from grass to tin and bought in materials to make it a bit more comfortable and built a little sheltered area behind the hut where they could hang out.

Aner is very modest and he has no idea how his work makes such a positive impact at the Sanctuary. This year has been a hard year and the family new the sanctuary was struggling so they took it upon themselves to make do with recycled materials laying around to fix up some things on the hut. They have used an old vinyl sign to make a wind break on one of the walls in the hut that became damaged from termites and tried to fix other bits and pieces with whatever materials where available around the sanctuary. With the children growing and the space they share looking smaller and smaller as the kids grow, it's time to build them a proper more comfortable place to call home.

Let's build this Beautiful family a new home at BEES Elephant Sanctuary!
