About the project
The purpose of this project is to aid the Orang Asli community in Jelebu fo them to obtain safe housing facilities as well as create a foundation for continuous engagement by the students of Kolej MARA Seremban (KMS). In this particular project, the team is aiming to build a house for one of the families in the community. The students involved in this project are going to be exposed to a global problem with a local concern which are the effects of development on the native community of the country. This is in line with one of the objectives of the Creativity,Activity,Service (CAS) component of the International Baccalaureate Programme which seeks to provide the students with an enriching experience of service learning.
Why you should sponsor us?
The Orang Asli community is at a grave disadvantage. In Malaysia, over 12 thousand Orang Asli live in unsafe housing conditions and 35% of Orang Asli can be categorized as hardcore poor (Pelan Strategik Orang Asli, 2011). the funds raise will be used to provide housing to one of the families in the Orang Asli community in Kampung Putra, Jelebu. The house will undoubtedly will bring a positive impact on the families. You will also be involved in helping students to gain invaluable experience and knowledge in serving the community.
Details of the project
The house will be built by the student volunteers and local villagers in collaboration with EPIC Homes (a social enterprise). The house is a modular type of house. Before the build, the student volunteers will undergo a workshop to equip them with the skills to build the modular house. It is expected the house to be built over the period of four days. Before the build, we will engage the village for a community mapping session in order to gain data concerning which families are in need the most and serve as a guide for future project.
