Bridging School Appeal - Bridging the Educational Gap for Children in Need in Nepal

In 2014, TECH Outreach Malaysia introduced the Bridging School Project in Nepal. Bridging School connects educational institutions, corporates and other NGOs from Malaysia with schools in remote villages in Nepal. Through this initiative 5 schools have been sponsored in Sindhuli, one of the most remote locations in Nepal, impacting a total number of 450 children between the ages of 5 and 12. 

Children were provided with basic school materials such as uniforms, shoes, bags, stationery and water bottles. Classrooms were equiped with new whiteboards and basic teaching materials. TECH Outreach's partners had also sponsored English teachers for 2 schools. TECH Outreach conducted an impact study on the Children that benefited from this programme a year later, and found that the kids were happier and more confident and motivated to be at school. Attendance had gone up to 85% compared to 40% before the initiative. They were still using the materials provided. However, school uniforms, shoes, bags and stationery will need to be replaced annually. There was also a marked change in the command of English for the kids that benefited from the English sponsored teachers. They could construct sentences and understand the language, compared to not understanding a single word in English prior to this programme. The change was profound and encouraging.

We are currently raising funds for the continuity of this programme, which is to pay for the basic necessities for the children, such as uniform, shoes, socks, stationery, bags. The cost per child is RM88. We are targeting to raise funds for 188 children. We are also working with international schools and corporates to sponsor the rest of the programme.
