Birthday Fundraiser for WAO

Support for survivors of domestic violence, Covid-19 Emergency Fund is participating in COVID-19 Emergency Fund to Support Domestic Violence Survivors
and is fundraising for Women's Aid Organisation

Covid-19 and the MCO have proved to be a challenging time for all, but more so for those for whom even home is not a safe place. Please help me to provide some support to those in need during this time.

My Story

While the MCO and Covid-19 have forced many of us to start working from home and spending more time in the safety of our own homes, there are many for whom home is not a safe space. For those facing domestic violence, the MCO and lockdown has left them with no other option than to stay home with their attackers. In the first half of April alone, the WAO recorded a 111.2% increase in domestic violence cases. 

The WAO Emergency COVID-19 Fund will be used for the following:
  • Food and non-food items for women and children throughout the COVID-19 period
  • Volunteer hotline mobilisation cost - Stipend for our volunteers as WAO services extended to 24 hour support
  • Utilities
  • Grab delivery services
  • Shelter support - WAO's shelter is at maximum capacity, and they are funding alternative safe spaces 
  • Social work and case management - continued throughout MCO period as Emergency Protection Orders (EPOs) and Interim Protection Orders (IPOs) are required during this stage
  • Medical aid and legal aid
  • Counselling and psychosocial support
  • Survivor empowerment programmes via online platforms
The WAO is working hard to create access to safe spaces for survivors as many shelters are at maximum capacity, and are exploring setting up temporary shelters to support those who need a safe refuge away from domestic violence.
