Support Karimunjawa's citizens receive urgent living supplies as so many have lost their jobs as a direct result of the Coronavirus.

UPDATE 18-05-2020

The Gotong Royong volunteer team have been working hard in these last few weeks to promote our fundraising campaign as much as possible, so that we can help Karimunjawa locals that have lost their jobs in the tourism industry due to the Corona outbreak.

Meanwhile, we have also decided what type of package we will be distributing.
Each care package will consist of:
10kg rice
2L cooking oil
1 kg sugar
2 kg eggs
1 pack laundry powder
1 bottle washing up liquid.
Voucher for 1 gas canister
Voucher for IDR 100,000 for electricity
The total value of one package will be IDR 400,000.

To help the local seller in Karimunjawa these packages will be purchased from a range of local sellers.

The first round of packages will be ready on Friday 22nd May, in time for the Nation's largest holiday Eid-al-Fitri, which is heavily focused on forgiveness and taking care of each other. The second round will be in June.

We are so grateful that, thanks to your donations, we can help 300 families in Karimunjawa. It is such a great start, but with more than 10,000 inhabitants who mainly depend on tourism, we hope with new donations in the next weeks to be able to help many more families.

--------

Support Karimunjawa's citizens to receive urgent living supplies as so many have lost their jobs as a direct result of the Coronavirus.

The damaging effects of the Covid-19 pandemic are worrying and unpredictable for so many of us across the globe. It is times like this that our unified support on a global scale becomes essential to minimize unnecessary suffering as much as possible. Some people can still financially support themselves through these uncertain times while others simply don't have that option. This brings us to Indonesia, and more specifically a hidden paradise of Java, called Karimunjawa. A small archipelago located in the Java Sea, it’s a real haven for those who want to visit somewhere slightly undiscovered, authentic and virgin, and explore isolated and unspoilt islands.

The Indonesian Government has officially closed the island since the 17th of March, until further notice. The impact this decision has on the islands inhabitants is huge. Other than fishing, tourism is the main industry on the island, meaning a huge range of people have lost their jobs, from hospitality workers, tour operators, guides and drivers to launderettes and beach cafe sellers, just to name a few. The Indonesian Government has already provided some of those needs, such as widows and the very poor with basic supplies and working towards rolling out a wider public welfare initiative. However so many people are unable to apply or qualify for this support because of illiteracy, poor education, lack of information and isolation. These initiatives also take time to reach some or those who already really need help. Although people are trying to find work anyway they can to support their family, the fishing industry is only an option for a few, and other work is impossible to find on island.

Tourism on the island is seasonal, meaning that the low season, from November to March is a financially challenging time of year for locals. The timing of this pandemic is particularly damaging because this difficult period has now been drastically extended. Normal working class people have now been thrust into poverty and are struggling to meet their basic needs. It is becoming difficult for them to afford such things as electricity, gas, rice, vegetables, eggs or meat, and for some, diapers and milk for babies, let alone soap, masks and other products to protect themselves from the Corona virus.

This is where our initiative comes into play and we ask for your help as little or as big as possible. United in the Gotong Royong Association, locals and Hospitality Association members have come together to help fill in this unemployment gap now facing Karimunjawa. Many local companies are already doing their best to help the local community, but unfortunately this is not enough to supplement urgent needs in the short term and lost wages in the longer term.

Will you help us to support this beautiful island through this tough period and make a donation to provide locals with basic food and care packages?

For those of you who have already experienced the rich natural and cultural beauty that Karimunjawa has to offer, it is clear why it is so important for us to preserve the locals livelihood. For those of you who have yet to come, we ask for your help to continue the spirit of Karimunjawa for many more years to come!

10kg beras

Minyak goreng 2L

1 kg gula

2 kg telur

1 bungkus detergent

1 botol cairan pencuci piring.
