The Red Pencil

When we rescue the child, we save the adult.

In most cases of traumatic situations, it is too painful to use words.

Founded in 2011, The Red Pencil is an international humanitarian organisation whose mission is to bring the benefits of arts therapy to children, adolescents, adults, and their families who have been through overwhelming life circumstances such as in natural disasters, displacements as a result of conflict and war, human trafficking, life-threatening illnesses, violence, and abuse.

Sometimes, words are not enough to convey deep emotions. With the help of registered arts therapist volunteers, The Red Pencil taps into the creative power of drawing, painting, dancing and music. These meaning-making processes are powerful forms of expression for the beneficiaries whose sufferings require attention, expression, relief, release and ultimately, healing.

Arts therapy breaks the vicious cycles of helplessness and violence, and also helps victims re-integrate the community they have often dropped out of.

Since 2011, The Red Pencil has reached out to more than 16,000 direct beneficiaries, their families and the community in 28 countries, trained over 500 local staff and caregivers, and worked with more than 180 partnering organisations worldwide. The Red Pencil is an Institute of Public Character (IPC) in Geneva and Singapore, and is a registered Non-Profit Organisation in Dubai.

Thanks to you and your contribution, children are recovering from traumatic events through the power of arts therapy, growing towards a happier and hopeful future.
