Yellow House

Yellow House, a local grassroots NGO, has been working with marginalised, vulnerable communities since 2011. In order to have maximum impact, Yellow House thoroughly assesses the needs of these communities to match them with existing opportunities. Over the years, Yellow House has touched the lives of thousands of beneficiaries and in the process have developed a deep understanding of the needs of these communities who often rely on daily/weekly wages to make ends meet. With the pandemic outbreak happening around the world, Project S.O.U.P aims to ensure that there are food on the table for more than 200 underprivileged families, including the elderly and refugees. We will start delivering care packages to families in Ampang, and gradually expand our support to those in need in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor. Our aim is to ensure that everyone has food on their table - one family at a time.Funds raised will be used to send monthly care packages to more than 200 families. Care packages include basic necessities and food.[Update @ 15 April 2020]Thank you for your generous support to date!As the MCO continues to be extended, more and more families are reaching out to us for help. In response, we are extending our fund-raising campaign and increasing our target to reach up to 700 families. Based on their needs and family composition, we are adding infant milk, diapers and feminine hygiene products to the food care packages. Any contribution, big or small, will help these households get through this trying time.Check out our efforts at:Web: https://yellowhousekl.com/ngoFB: https://www.facebook.com/yellowhouseklIF: https://www.instagram.com/yellowhouseklFor corporate sponsorship, please contact Shyam at 018-367 4852.

Yayasan Chow Kit, "Every Child Matters"

Abdi is a 2 year old Somalian boy who is in need of a liver transplant and needs urgent attention. He also has another younger sister who is 1 month old, and his parents are in need of support for his surgery. I first met Abdi through his dad, as he was looking to be a chef with PichaEats to support his family. Abdi's mother is currently looking after him and his sister at home.Currently, he is only depending on monthly medication and his condition restricts him from breathing normally. The doctor only gives Abdi months to live without the transplant. This surgery will save his life and give him a second chance to grow up.Dr Hartini Zainudin and Syed Azmi are also currently working on this case right now and we would appreciate all the help and support we can get.

Yayasan Chow Kit, "Every Child Matters"

We are raising funds again for Yayasan Chow Kit. Tini, our favourite warrior, works tirelessly to protect all children. And we want to be able to support that. We hope that this will be our new family tradition. We will be supporting YCK's Baby Health Fund this year. YCK offers support to families who need help to take care of their infants as well. Many of YCK's clients are from the marginalized and low-income community in Kuala Lumpur hence they might not have access to the best pre-natal care during pregnancy. More often than not, they only realized that their infant needs immediate medical care after they are born. When such cases are referred to us, YCK's only option is to reach out to generous donor for additional support as it is challenging for them to gather such huge amount of money in a short period of time. The stress and desperation to the parents who do not have the means to pay for their babies'care are unimaginable. Some are refused treatment when funds are unavailable. Some take their babies out of the hospital prematurely for fear that they cannot pay the fees. YCK's motto is "Every Child Matter", and we will fight to help every case that is brought to their attention. Your support will give them the opportunity to grow up and thrive. Naya is also taking part in #MYGiving. We will raise funds and raise awareness for YCK. #EveryChildMatters!

Donsol is a third class municipality in the province of Sorsogon, with a population of 49,711 according to the 2015 Census. Local and international tourists know of Donsol because of the whale shark interactions, a common sight during the months of March and April. The presence of the Whale Shark, locally known as the Butanding, has contributed to the improvement of Donsol’s local economy, improving the livelihoods of many people. The Butanding Interaction Officers, popularly known as the BIO, are the frontliners of Donsol’s whale shark tourism, acting as both tour guides and life guards. They ensure order and safety, making the interactions enjoyable for everyone, even for those who lack swimming skills. As long as the whale sharks regularly visit the waters of Donsol, the BIO will continue to work to provide services for tourism and to help in the protection of the environment. The global COVID-19 pandemic has taken the world by storm, and its effects have been felt by the entire Philippines, including Donsol. What was once considered as thriving months for tourism have now been turned into periods of quarantine, which has affected not only the whale shark tourism operations but the entire economy of the Donsol community. Currently, there are around 40-50 BIOs in Donsol, and their livelihoods have been severely affected by this pandemic. Because of the lack of tourism income, they have been struggling to feed their families and to provide for their daily basic needs. Our goal is to help not just the families of our BIOs, but also a total of 200 families in Donsol by providing them with food assistance. And for our BIOs, in order for them to rise above this crisis once the whale shark tourism operations resume, we would be assisting them in the form of new equipment: swimming masks, snorkels, fins, and rashguards. With your help, we can provide these materials needed by our BIO so they can recover and rebuild their livelihoods after the crisis and continue providing quality service to support the economy of the Donsol community.Let’s protect the protectors of our whale sharks. Together, let’s support our BIOs, and the community of Donsol, as they continue to #ChangeTheEnding for our endangered butandings and their natural habitat!

The National Cancer Society of Malaysia (NCSM)

Many Malaysian families go through hardship when cancer hits. Due to a lack of treatment centres around Malaysia, families are forced to travel far from their home to Kuala Lumpur and spend several days or weeks to get treatment for their children. Even then, hospital wards are often full, causing accommodation problems and further financial stress for the family.  In support of raising awareness of Childhood Cancer, me, Mellanie Yew, finalists of Miss Grand Selangor 2020 associated and supporting the services of Children's Home of Hope from National Cancer Society of Malaysia (NCSM). NCSM is financed entirely by voluntary contributions from the public. NCSM's service charges are either subsidised or offered free to eligible persons. Your donation will help NCSM to continue in providing a holistic range of cancer-related services and support to cancer patients and caregivers. I want to take this opportunity to help amplify the voice to support the kids and the families to overcome it. I really appreciate your interest in my project and hope you can donate to it through SimplyGiving. Your contribution will then be channeled straight to the NCSM and recorded in full. Please take a step to #CareWithAction, because every little bit from you help our little warriors and the families increase the courage to beat cancer.  Share it around to your family and friends. You have my deepest gratitude, and you can be sure the kids appreciate it. Regards, Mellanie Yew.

When we were small we remember the joy and excitement of going to the shops to buy new books, stationary, school bags, shoes, and uniforms in preparation for the new school year. We have been privileged to get a good education and reach great strides in life but unfortunately, many children do not get that opportunity. Thousands of families in the Philippines are unable to meet the cost of books, uniforms, and other school supplies resulting in their children dropping out of school and due to poverty children also decided to work for their families instead of going to school. This year, I decided to raise funds, and the proceeds will go directly to World Vision Philippines. Supporting one of their mision is to provide educational supplies for less fortunate and inspired them to value education and change the local community. As you can imagine, the children we can reach through this effort is a small fraction of those that are in need. Education is invaluable gift and I would like to invite you to join me in this endeavor. Even the smallest donation will help a less-fortunate young child stay in schools and education is a pathway to poverty alleviation. Therefore, your support would not only help a child go to school but you will also contribute towards a better future.
