Yellow House

Yellow House, a local grassroots NGO, has been working with marginalised, vulnerable communities since 2011. In order to have maximum impact, Yellow House thoroughly assesses the needs of these communities to match them with existing opportunities. Over the years, Yellow House has touched the lives of thousands of beneficiaries and in the process have developed a deep understanding of the needs of these communities who often rely on daily/weekly wages to make ends meet. With the pandemic outbreak happening around the world, Project S.O.U.P aims to ensure that there are food on the table for more than 200 underprivileged families, including the elderly and refugees. We will start delivering care packages to families in Ampang, and gradually expand our support to those in need in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor. Our aim is to ensure that everyone has food on their table - one family at a time.Funds raised will be used to send monthly care packages to more than 200 families. Care packages include basic necessities and food.[Update @ 15 April 2020]Thank you for your generous support to date!As the MCO continues to be extended, more and more families are reaching out to us for help. In response, we are extending our fund-raising campaign and increasing our target to reach up to 700 families. Based on their needs and family composition, we are adding infant milk, diapers and feminine hygiene products to the food care packages. Any contribution, big or small, will help these households get through this trying time.Check out our efforts at:Web: https://yellowhousekl.com/ngoFB: https://www.facebook.com/yellowhouseklIF: https://www.instagram.com/yellowhouseklFor corporate sponsorship, please contact Shyam at 018-367 4852.

Yayasan Chow Kit, "Every Child Matters"

Abdi is a 2 year old Somalian boy who is in need of a liver transplant and needs urgent attention. He also has another younger sister who is 1 month old, and his parents are in need of support for his surgery. I first met Abdi through his dad, as he was looking to be a chef with PichaEats to support his family. Abdi's mother is currently looking after him and his sister at home.Currently, he is only depending on monthly medication and his condition restricts him from breathing normally. The doctor only gives Abdi months to live without the transplant. This surgery will save his life and give him a second chance to grow up.Dr Hartini Zainudin and Syed Azmi are also currently working on this case right now and we would appreciate all the help and support we can get.

Yayasan Chow Kit, "Every Child Matters"

We are raising funds again for Yayasan Chow Kit. Tini, our favourite warrior, works tirelessly to protect all children. And we want to be able to support that. We hope that this will be our new family tradition. We will be supporting YCK's Baby Health Fund this year. YCK offers support to families who need help to take care of their infants as well. Many of YCK's clients are from the marginalized and low-income community in Kuala Lumpur hence they might not have access to the best pre-natal care during pregnancy. More often than not, they only realized that their infant needs immediate medical care after they are born. When such cases are referred to us, YCK's only option is to reach out to generous donor for additional support as it is challenging for them to gather such huge amount of money in a short period of time. The stress and desperation to the parents who do not have the means to pay for their babies'care are unimaginable. Some are refused treatment when funds are unavailable. Some take their babies out of the hospital prematurely for fear that they cannot pay the fees. YCK's motto is "Every Child Matter", and we will fight to help every case that is brought to their attention. Your support will give them the opportunity to grow up and thrive. Naya is also taking part in #MYGiving. We will raise funds and raise awareness for YCK. #EveryChildMatters!

Hi everyone. I am John from Sarawak. From knowing little about education to completing a Research-based Master's, I realised that education is for everyone regardless of their social status. Despite financial difficulties, I beefed up my courage - walking from door to door, ringing the bells, to express my research interests and fundraising goals to every household and company, together with my family. At the end of my 9-month fundraising journey, I learned that perseverance was the key - I was notified by one of the sponsors that I was awarded a fully-funded scholarship to pursue my dream! The moment I saw tears rolling down my mom's cheek, I finally understood that we never walked alone in the journey. After being sponsored to pursue my studies, I embarked on the journey of contributing back to society, and raising educational funds for children is a part of the journey. If you would love to partake in this journey, or know more about my personal journey, please do not hesitate to reach out to me on this platform or my email.Thank you.Once complacency ceases, your limits shine through every hurdle - John Yeo

Mother's Choice

Thank you for clicking to this page. Mothers choice is a charity very close our hearts. We aim to share with you our stories below: 'A vicious cycle' by Marc Growing up in South Africa, I saw abject poverty. The contrast between the haves and have-nots could not have been more starker – something that was not lost on me. It is ingrained in you from a very young age and you quickly realise that the world is not a fair place. Recognizing this helped me develop a mindset to be grateful for what we have and to not only help others in need but also help others help themselves. My interest in Mother’s Choice started with learning about the challenges that some mothers in Hong Kong face. I thought, “How could the mothers find themselves in this situation? What has happened in society that has allowed this to occur?”I could rationalise the situation in Africa because of limited education and means. The cycle of poverty begins with young girls not being able to get education, know nothing about life, getting  pregnant very young and forced to do anything that can to survive – so begins the the vicious cycle from which they are unlikely to ever break out. But then you come to a place like Hong Kong – a rich city – yet women still find themselves on the streets and you understand that there is this complicated, cultural dimension – like what blood means in Chinese families. It is a very different situation. Why does Hong Kong feel so third world and why is society HERE struggling with this vicious cycle? It was only way much later that I actually began to think about the children. Babies are the outcome of a broken paradigm, and that goes back to how life is unfair.   Marc Love goes both ways by Erin Volunteering at Mother’s Choice is rewarding – it is the gift that keeps on giving. The reward starts the moment I walk into a room full of smiling babies, gurgling their welcome and greeting me with open arms. Mother’s Choice creates an environment that allows volunteers and babies to be at ease with each other.  There is a saying that to give better than to receive.  But my experience at Mother’s Choice has shown me a deeper revelation that to give is to receive.  Love goes both ways; I have simultaneously given of myself and received abundantly at Mother’s Choice. Erin

香港融樂會 Hong Kong Unison

The numbers of ethnic minorities in Hong Kong have increased significantly over the past 10 years. This population is a sizeable and growing pool of talent with a diverse mix of cultural backgrounds adding multi-layered flavors to the fragrant harbor. However, being from an ethnic minority community in a largely homogenous population has its disadvantages and drawbacks that need to be addressed. The current pandemic has impacted ethnic minority communities quite hard. Especially children who are getting left behind in their studies as they lack the infrastructure at home - computers, internet access - to cope with the needs of online learning.  The NGO, HK-Unison, aims to take on these challenges and better the lives of ethnic minorities in Hong Kong. Every year, students from RCHK come together for the International Evening. This is an event celebrating the cultural diversity and international mindedness at RCHK through cultural performances by students, teachers, and parents. This celebratory evening has traditionally been used to raise funds to help HK-Unison in a small way to further its developmental work with ethnic minority communities. This year, we intend to continue this legacy and ensure that the show goes on, even if it is virtual amidst the challenging pandemic. We are now producing a virtual show that will be live-streamed on 8th Oct 2020, 6:00-7:30 pm with the aim to entertain our audience in the comfort of their homes with their families. Through the performances of our versatile students' teachers and parents, we will celebrate our cultural diversity and international mindedness as members of the ESF family. But, lest we forget, the event still needs to raise funds to help HK-Unison and this will be impossible without your support. So please donate and join us in the fun.

Even so, it has been given insufficient attention and importance in the lives of our modern society. Mother's Choice

We wish you all love on Mother’s Day. Whether you’re celebrating with your mum, being pampered by your children, preparing to embark on the journey of motherhood. Or you’re remembering the mother gone, the child lost, the child you hoped for. We wish you love. As many of you know, Harj and I firmly advocate for the safety and wellbeing of all children. For reasons I won’t go into, writing a story about young girls and babies in crisis has been particularly hard for me this week, but I was driven to do so by a feeling of immense gratitude for the work that Mother’s Choice, a Hong Kong charity, does to give family and the hope of a better future to vulnerable girls and children. Just thinking about what so many of these girls have been through or what their babies may go through without the charity’s support brings me to tears. Now Mother’s Choice needs help to continue their work. Their Patron Mrs Purviz Shroff who has risen from tragedy to be a mother figure to thousands is calling on us all to shine our light to see young people in personal crisis through the global crisis. This Mother’s Day till Father’s Day, we’re asking our family members, friends and colleagues around the world to join us to support Mrs Shroff’s initiative and help girls and babies in need. You can read about them here:  https://www.scmp.com/lifestyle/health-wellness/article/3083353/answering-pregnant-teens-calls-help-huge-rise-serviceWe are grateful for any amount you can give to Mother’s Choice at this time. And we are grateful that we can call on our family in good times and bad. With love from our family to yours.

Make-A-Wish Malaysia

My name is Michaella Widjaya, I'm 12 years old and I’m from Australia. I’m working with my sister Gabrielle to raise money for Make-A-Wish, I found the Make-A-Wish charity and fundraiser through a close friend. I want to try and help the young children my age that are agonizing, undergoing cancer. it’s difficult for me to know that there are other kids my age with cancer, suffering in a hospital bed, knowing that their life is on a timer. I see them and they’re just like me a kid with dreams, with passions. I believe, although we can't change their fate, we can make their last months, days or even minutes the best ever. Make their biggest wish come true. My name is Gabrielle, I am 10 years old and I’m working with my older sister Michaella to raise money for the Make-A-Wish charity. I feel so terribly bad for kids around my age that have to go through problems like cancer and can’t do things I can such as sport. They are stuck in hospital beds all day, inside. Like in a prison, they are waiting for their sentence to be over and be to let free. These kids did not choose their fate, they are just very unlucky and they did nothing to deserve this. We can’t change the story god has chosen for them but we can lighten up their stories. Make the moments they are living actually worth living. Allow their wildest dreams to come to life.
