Yellow House

Yellow House, a local grassroots NGO, has been working with marginalised, vulnerable communities since 2011. In order to have maximum impact, Yellow House thoroughly assesses the needs of these communities to match them with existing opportunities. Over the years, Yellow House has touched the lives of thousands of beneficiaries and in the process have developed a deep understanding of the needs of these communities who often rely on daily/weekly wages to make ends meet. With the pandemic outbreak happening around the world, Project S.O.U.P aims to ensure that there are food on the table for more than 200 underprivileged families, including the elderly and refugees. We will start delivering care packages to families in Ampang, and gradually expand our support to those in need in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor. Our aim is to ensure that everyone has food on their table - one family at a time.Funds raised will be used to send monthly care packages to more than 200 families. Care packages include basic necessities and food.[Update @ 15 April 2020]Thank you for your generous support to date!As the MCO continues to be extended, more and more families are reaching out to us for help. In response, we are extending our fund-raising campaign and increasing our target to reach up to 700 families. Based on their needs and family composition, we are adding infant milk, diapers and feminine hygiene products to the food care packages. Any contribution, big or small, will help these households get through this trying time.Check out our efforts at:Web: https://yellowhousekl.com/ngoFB: https://www.facebook.com/yellowhouseklIF: https://www.instagram.com/yellowhouseklFor corporate sponsorship, please contact Shyam at 018-367 4852.

Abdi is a 2 year old Somalian boy who is in need of a liver transplant and needs urgent attention. He also has another younger sister who is 1 month old, and his parents are in need of support for his surgery. I first met Abdi through his dad, as he was looking to be a chef with PichaEats to support his family. Abdi's mother is currently looking after him and his sister at home.Currently, he is only depending on monthly medication and his condition restricts him from breathing normally. The doctor only gives Abdi months to live without the transplant. I haven't really celebrated my birthday in years ever since junior high school. Partially because of the so-called ‘birthday celebration tradition’ in the boarding school which was honestly just another form of bullying that made me want to be invisible or hide out somewhere on my birthday. So I grew up hating the attention that I never even bothered to tell people it was my birthday (most of the time I just forget my own birthday). The worst part is when I eventually find everyone's birthday insignificant. At times, I feel guilty for feeling this way when my loved ones and close friends want to celebrate, and I just want to avoid these kinds of celebrations. The few times it's happened, it was seriously a case of pasting on a happy face and toughing it out, and being relieved as hell when it was over. I thought it was just the way I’m put together but little that I know that they are the result of a decade of ingrained defence mechanisms and survival practices. Childhood bullying leaves deep scars and recovery is not a quick process, especially if we did not deal with the bullying when it occurred. Too often, bullying is not taken seriously and is treated as a normal rite of passage. It's time for us to move away from any perception that bullying is just an inevitable part of growing up, but a significant disadvantage in childhood that can have life-long consequences. Just because people can make lemonade out of lemons, it doesn’t mean that bullying is a good thing. Even those who are able to see the positive side of having been bullied often had other negative ramifications. While programs to stop bullying are important, teachers, parents and policymakers need to focus efforts on early intervention among children to prevent problems caused by bullying from persisting into adolescence and adulthood. My time as an intern at UNICEF Malaysia, has opened up my eyes to UNICEF's commitment to protecting children from all forms of violence and bullying as well as supporting their mental and psychosocial well-being. Turning 24 this year, I decided to overcome my birthday blues by doing something meaningful. With your help (and some birthday love), we can stand up to bullying, and make a big difference to the lives of children in need to feel safer, more included and accepted. Donate now!

Just a brief story why I started this. 2 years ago I also had a simple personal gift giving and from there every year I’m thinking how to make it work. Then, due to personal reason it didn’t work out. This year came and months ago I’ve been through bad break up. It is really hard to think clearly and one time I was strolling in the mall just to clear my mind, someone approached me and talking about UNICEF. As she was talking, my heart melts and thinking that this might be a sign for me to continue my personal advocacy of giving in a little way possible. With so much emotions and no second thoughts I decided to donate to this organization. Now, as my birthday is approaching I want this fundraising be the way to help those children in need in your little way possible. Hoping that this short story of mine inspires you to help them also. 😊

Save the Children Philippines

Hi, my name is Jam Antkowiak. When I was a grade one pupil, I was molested one early morning by a bystander at my elementary school. Luckily, before it got worst, I was rescued by a concerned person who from a distance saw the bystander taking me to the back building. The concerned person was jogging around the playground. This was a public school. This was a time when parents believed it was safe for their kids to walk and go to school on their own. How wrong they were.I did not understand all that went on that morning but the concerned person waited for my teacher to arrive before he went on his way. My teacher and the other teachers in that building asked me all kinds of questions. They seemed to not know what to do. None of them informed my parents. They only instructed me to avoid the bystander because he was an addict. I was in grade 4 when I realized that what happened to me was very wrong. Ashamed and confused I never talked about it until I became an adult.I am supporting Save the Children and I wish to raise funds for the protection of children against any kind of abuse. Every child has the right to be protected.
