Project Heart Malaysia

The Hiranis are planning to climb the Highest Mountain in Southeast Asia: Mt. Kinabalu in Malaysia. The Climb will take place across 4 days and I'm stoked! However, those who know my husband will know that he isn't quite up for the challenge (and wasn't given a choice either)... I will need all the emotional support to tolerate him during these 4 days, so if you'd like to see him mumble, grumble, and be in a little bit of pain, please donate generously in exchange for photographic evidence of his experience. The proceeds of the climb will go towards the Project Heart Malaysia which provides the underprivileged children with necessities, education and economic empowerment!!

Friends-International

I am buying my first ever pair of running shoes to run the10km at the Angkor Wat Half Marathon in Cambodia. So, I am challenging myself to run in 34(+) degrees heat and ridiculous humidity to raise money for Friends International. Friends International work with children, youth and families across Southeast Asia. They help to reintegrate children back into education and provide young adults with amazing training to support them in gaining the confidence to kickstart their careers and adult life. Whilst working for Friends I have been fortunate enough to see first hand the incredible work they are doing! Any support that you can offer is very much appreciated and will make my first "proper" run worth every step!!

BRANCHES OF HOPE

I was very fortunate to come to Hong Kong with a valid visa, a stable job, loving friends and supportive colleagues already lined up. Not everyone who makes the journey here receives such a soft landing. As I am in the midst of clearing out my apartment and packing up my belongings to move countries once again as someone with the privilege of choosing to do so, I have little need for any additional materials goods. Instead, I'd be really happy if anyone wishing to make a donation would pledge their money to support the work of Branches of Hope - an NGO that assists refugees and other vulnerable people who arrive in Hong Kong under more challenging circumstances.

Splash Foundation Limited

As I pack, give away and sell all my belongings to prepare to move to Canada, instead of buying me any leaving gifts to add to the load, what would make me really happy is if you join me in donating a few dollars to Splash Foundation - a Hong Kong-based NGO that teaches people without access to affordable lessons how to swim. During the past seven years of living life to the full in Hong Kong, I have frequently been surprised at how many people I have met who do not have the ability to swim. Let's get together to help change that, so that more people living here can benefit from the multitude of ways in which confidence in the water can transform lives. It costs just $2,000 to teach someone to swim and be water safe, so this is the target I'm setting. Obviously if we can collect more, then we can make a difference to even more people's lives. There's no obligation to donate: I'll be happy just to see you for a final drink and dance before I depart (for now - I am SURE I will be back!) If you do have a little bit of spare cash, please follow the instructions on this site to add it to the collection.

Help Siew May conquer Mount Fuji in support of the special needs community!Oh Siew May was born with cerebral palsy, a disorder that affects musular control and body movements. Growing up, she overcame many challenges, from family issuesto social prejudice. One of her greatest achievements is conquering Mount Kinabalu in Sabah, Malaysia. She now hopes to conquer Japan’s iconic peak, Mount Fuji.“Our life is like a mountain. Some days can be tougher, some days can be easier. All we need to do is keep moving no matter what happens.”About the ChallengeAs part of our mission to overcome limitations and change perceptions, YMCA is sending a team of special needs individuals to conquer Mount Fuji for the first time. Over the next 3 months, we will challenge them to make the impossible, possible as they prepare for the journey up Mount Fuji.   This inaugural expedition to Mount Fuji is part of our Y Camp Challenge initiative – an outdoor adventure programme – that empowers our special needs clients through outdoor activities. The four-day expedition is a test of physical endurance and emotional resilience as our special needs clients go through a series of pre-trip trainings and the actual hike up the mountain. Through this programme, clients are able to develop their confidence, overall sociability and are empowered to look beyond their limitations. These skills will eventually help our clients adapt to the society more confidently and comfortably. The climb also aims to raise funds for Y Camp Challenge, a YMCA programme that strengthens special needs by building their confidence and capabilities.Read more at https://fuji.ymca.org.sg/ .

Recently, Elliot spent some time out at the seas in Southeast Asia. He had a wonderful time snorkelling, swimming and sailing. He saw beautiful fishes and corals including sharks and turtles! But he also saw lots of plastic and rubbish floating around the sea. He read that if nothing is done to conserve the ocean and slow down global warming, soon all the corals will die and there will be more plastic than fish in the sea by 2050. Elliot would like to do his part to prevent this from happening... he hopes that you will too.

Michael and Jorja are back to take on MoonTrekker 2019. Its been a few years and 2 kids along the way, but we can't wait to get out on the course again this October. Barclays MoonTrekker is Hong Kong's leading night hiking/running event over either 30kms or 43kms that delivers a fantastic experience and raises money for our nominated charity. One of MT's biggest challenges is Sunset Peak, at 934m, and some of the steepest terrain in Hong Kong, this may be the toughest section of all Hong Kong hikes. For years Lantau Peak attracted hundreds of hikers to experience Hong Kong's best dawn first-hand. Sunrise is at 6.23am. We hope we can beat the sun and finish strong.
