Who are we? We are merely a group of students from DISTED College, Penang. We are here to do a Community Service, to help an NGO create their presence on social media! If you didn't know yet, in the rural Malay fishing village of Teluk Bahang in Penang's northwest corner, local fishermen have been caring for cats for the past decade! Meanwhile, in the sophisticated city of Georgetown, just an hour away, homeless cats are found by kind people everyday in the ditches and drains, at markets and restaurants or they may simply have been dumped on the street. Where can they go? Can they find a place where they belong? ...And the answer is, Cat Beach! As you may have known, there are not enough homes for all the animals that are born every year to live in. Adopting from a shelter helps weaken the pet overpopulation cycle. In every year, 8 to 12 million dogs, cats, puppies and kittens are euthanized because there are simply not enough homes for them...And that is where we, as the community, comes in! You can help out the kittens at Cat Beach through donations. Financial donations make a huge difference for animal charities. Animal shelters need food, bedding and other supplies. Many need veterinarian care, medical assistance and spaying, or neutering. Your donations will help provide the care for the abandoned animals until a suitable home for them is found!

Cat Lovers International Society / Cat Beach Sanctuary

Cat Beach Sanctuary Penang located at the fishing village of Teluk Bahang on Penang Island, Malaysia is under the umbrella of the non-profit Cat Lovers International Society, with a mission to improve the welfare of cats in Penang and reaching out to communities across the globe. Local fishermen have been caring for cats for the past decade, meanwhile homeless cats are found by kind people every day in desperate situations (in the ditches and drains, at markets, restaurants, or may simply have been dumped on the street) and sent to Cat Beach Sanctuary.A "Zero Strays Policy" went into effect for the Penang state in July 2014, which means rescued cats cannot be returned to their home colonies and other shelters have no space to keep cats long-term. This has given special urgency to the need for a 'no kill' cat sanctuary, thus a small group of cat-loving volunteers decided to set up a sanctuary for cats in the summer of 2014, inspired by the work of Barbara Janssen who shelters more than 600 dogs at the 4PAWS shelter just up the street.Ms Teviot Fairservis - a cat-loving American - and Mr Nana bin Wanchik - a fisherman who has been feeding cats for a decade - began to transform an old wooden house on the beach into what we have today, with the help of many volunteers since July 2014.To help the cats, there are a lot of different ways available:ADOPTRead the preparation checklist on Cat Beach Penang's Adoption page - YOUR NEW CAT - adoption is a serious commitment so please plan how you will be able to care for the cat every day.FOSTERPerfect for people who can't manage to keep a cat permanently. Foster parents can provide a valuable service by caring for cats until a forever home can be found. Some even take on the sick or injured cat or kitten that are in needs of special care.VOLUNTEERThe sanctuary depends on volunteers to keep the place running smoothly, with lots of daily housekeeping can cat care to do. If you are able to help clean or medicate cats, you are welcome to the sanctuary to help almost any time (under strict SOP). Volunteers also take leadership or assist on producing events, outreach programs, renovations etc. to upgrade an improve lives of the Cat Beach Cats. For more info visit Cat Beach Penang's official website (www.catbeachpenang.com).DONATETo keep the sanctuary operating and for the welfare of the cats there, food, cleaning supplies, medications and veterinary care take up most of the expenses. As of December 2020, Cat Beach Sanctuary currently operates at about RM20,000 (USD $5,000) per month. In order to give good care to any cat, daily food, parasite treatments, vaccination, sterilization and emergency medical care are needed. In year 2019, veterinary treatments costed RM19,178 while medical supplies costed RM13,578 on a total of RM61,642 (USD $14,892.51) of total cat care expenses throughout the whole year. Therefore, all the funds from this fundraiser will go to the expense for cats' Emergency Veterinary Care expenses. ฅ^•ﻌ•^ฅ YOUR DONATIONS MAKE A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE TO CATS IN NEED ฅ^•ﻌ•^ฅHey everyone! Pends here~ Welcome to my fundraising page to help Cat Beach Sanctuary, Penang.Basically, Cat Beach is a non-profit 'no kill' sanctuary that homes rescued cats from desperate situations. As of now, the sanctuary is caring for 300+/- rescued kittens and cats. Because Cat Beach is a non-profit sanctuary, they rely entirely on donations and profit from their souvenir shop to keep the shelter running.Unfortunately, due to this pandemic, they are currently running short on funds to care for the cats as there are not many visitors coming to donate and buy from their shop. Even so, Cat Beach still needs to be operating and the Cat Beach cats still needs to be fed and cared for.As such, I've decided to start a fundraiser to help (even just a little) with their financial problem. I have set the minimum amount to 300MYR, however, there is no maximum amount so do continue the donation efforts as Cat Beach Sanctuary really needs every cent of it!If you, too, wish to help them to keep the shelter running, I bid you to reach out to that donate button to help keep our kitty friends at Cat Beach fully fed and healthy, especially during this challenging time.If you're unable to donate, do help to share this campaign around. Meowy thanks!  For more details on this safe haven for our kitty fur-iends, you may check out their:Official Website: https://catbeachpenang.comFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/catbeachpenangInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/catbeachsanctuaryAll income – every cent (sen) – received from donations, will go to support the Cat Beach cats.

Hello there! Welcome to Azalea’s fundraising page for Cat Beach Sanctuary! I can only assume that you have stumbled upon my small, humble page due to one of two reasons: ➤ You have ordered some cookies from me!➤ Somehow, I suppose fate has destined you to find this page.Either way, I’m glad that you’re here. Some of you may be wondering: “What is Cat Beach Sanctuary?”A: Cat Beach Sanctuary is a non-profit ‘No Kill’ cats-only shelter. Based in Teluk Bahang in Penang, Malaysia, Cat Beach Sanctuary strives to better the welfare of cats and they have also dedicated their efforts to awareness and educating others on cat care. Cat Beach Sanctuary currently cares for an estimated 300 cats and during these tough times, funds that provide care for the cats are running short. I can empathise deeply with the efforts of Cat Beach because my experience of fostering kittens when I was younger did not have the pleasant outcome that I had hoped for. In this story, there are three kittens, namely Cleo, Wolf, and Pans. These three were incredibly young, meaning that they had to be hand-fed and monitored every couple of hours. I thought they were thriving until I came home from school one day and found Pans lying in the cage, its body devoid of warmth and life. Wolf was the second to leave us. It was absolutely heartbreaking and for a good part of my life, I blamed myself for not giving them the proper care that they needed. Despite this, we were fortunate enough to watch Cleo grow up, even though she was given away to one of my parents' colleagues later on. If only I knew more and was better educated on cat care, it would have made all the difference for Wolf and Pans. With that said, I would like to reiterate for those who have ordered cookies from me that 100% of the sales will be donated to Cat Beach Sanctuary and I encourage you all to donate more if it is within your capacity to do so. Please note that it is optional for to pay for the 5% surcharge that is used to cover SimplyGiving's platform service fee. If you have any questions, do contact me personally through WhatsApp and Instagram, or leave a comment down below.Thank you for taking the time to read my story and I’m grateful for the support over this small fundraising project! Here's to share an important life lesson I learnt about, which is to know the difference between "knowing" and "understanding". To me at least, these two words represent different meanings. To know is simply having the knowledge of something. But understanding? That's on a whole different level.I've recently started to volunteer at Cat Beach Sanctuary Penang under the RASMA program. Funnily enough, I did not even know of Cat Beach before my volunteering period, albeit the site having a feature on some local TV channels. I've settled in quickly for voluntary work and caught on with my fellow Malaysians wanting to also make an impact. As each day goes by, I learnt about Cat Beach more and more, and my sympathy for the cats grew. Little did I know, this is only the tip of the iceberg.I have been granted a fortunate opportunity to have a personal talk with Ms Teviot, a woman who gives selflessly to Cat Beach. In that conversation, I felt like getting hit by a bat in my head, as I was dumbstruck listening to part of Cat Beach's history and work. For years, there's a group of people just dedicating themselves to the community cats, going all out to the point where they will use their personal savings without a second thought. The trouble that they go through is incomprehensible to most: Cats have to be protected from their variant of pandemics like the one we're experiencing; the bills from the cat food and vet trips only add on to the pressure. Even after ALL that, Cat Beach will still try its best to give volunteers the best experience for all their troubles. It isn't people doing God's work, I really don't know what is.During these difficult times, everyone will be on the lookout for themselves, naturally. Although there's no wrong in that, I can't help but wonder: "How many of us will truly understand the situations of the less fortunate, who still keep on giving?" I'm sure all of you can say you know about the stray animal shelters in your community, but have you ever thought through so much, put yourself in their shoes, to say you understand? My name is Zheng Hao, a 17 yo trying to contribute to the cause. As Cat Beach is a sanctuary for cats in desperate conditions, they need more funds really, compared to the average shelter. I plead you to lend us a helping hand to get us all through this together. Every cent(sen) will count!
