We're just five guys from Malaysia, looking to (try) grow the most lush moustaches for a worthy Movember cause: Mental Health. Particularly during this phase of collective hardship, it's also a time where awareness surrounding self-reflection and self-care is at an all time high. We have come together to experience and contribute to a serious, yet stigmatised, aspect of medical science that has been undervalued in Malaysian society. Personally, we have all experienced various degrees of depression and anxiety amongst our family, friends and even within ourselves. For the male gender in particular, it is a social expectation to "brush" it off and "man up" - a dangerous response. And thus, in most cases, we internalise this and the proper or sufficient treatment is never sought. It is our hope that our small collective contribution in this sub-sector of medicine sparks even a modicum of interest and focus. It's our privilege and honour to support Relate and their efforts to drive the conversation about Mental Health. As we journey through this, we'll be sharing more and more about mental health, and with a stronger sense of how we can address the issues surrounding it. Hope you join us - please do share this around. The funds will be targeted to support Relate's community subsidised psychotherapy services. We will be keeping in touch with them and keep you updated on a regular basis.Much love,Ariff, Haris, Kaiza, Seth and Sul

This page was created with hopes of providing aid to Relate Malaysia. The topic of depression has been an ongoing thing for a very long time. Even so, it has been given insufficient attention and importance in the lives of our modern society. We as Brickfields Asia College (BAC) students have come to realise this issue of negligence towards this mental illness and strive to make a difference by organising an online gaming tournament, that being a Player Unknown Battlegrounds, or PUBG tournament. This platform will solely be used for donations only with no amount of money being used for personal usage.

We have teamed up with CrossFit Lah Athlete Gary Harron to give back to the local community once again for our Annual Anniversary Fundraiser.Mental health is so important because it impacts all of us - whether personally and directly, or through our friends and family. We have teamed up with CrossFit Lah Athlete Gary Harron to give back to the local community once again for our Annual Anniversary Fundraiser.Relate Malaysia was founded by Dr. Chua Sook Ning, a clinical psychologist born and bred in DJ in 2017. She started the organisation when she realised how little mental health resources there were in Malaysia. There was little information on the mental health status in Malaysia, and the few reports that are available were unpublished and not talked about. She also noticed that people were embarrassed and scared to talk about their mental health struggles. They were afraid of being stigmatised and discriminated against. Unfortunately, their fears were often proven to be true. People lost jobs and the support of friends and family members when they shared their mental health struggles. Now known as Relate Malaysia, the initial focus was on raising public awareness that psychotherapy is an effective evidence-based treatment for mental illness. But from that initial focus, Relate Malaysia expanded its mission to:1. Promote the importance of mental health as part of well-being.2. Promote prevention and early intervention programs3. Develop effective, evidence based and accessible interventions.4. Encourage the establishment of community support and services for all who need them.5. Advocate for policies which protect patient rights and autonomy. At CrossFit Lah we encourage mental health and wellness through health and fitness as well as working to encourage others to feel comfortable discussing the challenges that surround mental health. Our hope with this fundraiser is that this encourages, not only the Lah community, to feel comfortable discussing mental health, but also to be participants to discuss well being within the local community. Together we can be making a larger impact in the personal and professional networks by driving the same agenda, encouraging dialogue and encouraging our friends, family and colleagues to get support when needed. To give you an indication of how far your financial support can go we have provided a breakdown below:RM 30 – will help Relate give important mental health information booklets to 20 people.RM 120 will help Relate give a comprehensive mental health assessment to ensure someone receives the right diagnosis and treatment.RM 300 will help Relate to support someone with a mild mental health condition through our low intensity treatment program.RM 2,500 will help Relate to support 10 people with depression through our group therapy program.RM 20,000 will help Relate develop a depression awareness and screening program in Bahasa Melayu.RM 100,000 will help Relate develop a guided online self-help intervention programme.

One in four people in the world will be affected by mental or neurological disorders at some point in their lives. Around 450 million people currently suffer from such conditions, placing mental disorders among the leading causes of ill-health and disability worldwide.RELATE aims to provide a platform to increase awareness of the importance of mental health, decrease the stigma of mental illness, and to develop accessible and affordable mental health interventions.Chances are, we all know someone that suffers from mental health.  And just as we take care of our physical health, we have to take care of our mental health too. Asking for help is easier if we can destigmatize mental health issues. So please support me in helping RELATE Malaysia to achieve their goals to:1. Promote the importance of mental health as part of well-being.2. Promote prevention and early intervention programs3. Develop effective, evidence based and accessible interventions.4. Encourage the establishment of community support and services for all who need them.5. Advocate for policies which protect patient rights and autonomy.

In March 2020, together with 99 other HSBC colleagues from around the world, I will be trekking 100km over 5 days through the Andean Mountains. This trek will be physically and mentally demanding, as we trekked the mountains of Ecuador, culminating in a climb to more than 4,200 m (13,780 ft) above sea level to Mt Cotopaxi, one of the world’s most active volcanoes. During our trek, we will be camping at night and have limited access to things we take for granted: a nice bed, hot food, showers, toilets etc. What makes this challenge interesting is that we can select mental health charities of our choice to support and raise fund. Collectively, we are aiming to raise $350,000 for mental health charities around the world. Mental health can impacts any of us - whether personally and directly, or through our friends and family. Through this Andean Challenge I hope to raise fund for Relate (https://relate.com.my/ ) , as they work on raising awareness on mental health in Malaysia, destigmatise mental illness and increase accessibility of support for those who need it. The fund raised will be used to support their programme deliverables to develop and roll out a culturally appropriate guided online self-help intervention programme for low to moderate depression/anxiety (modelled on IAPT programme in UK). This will double the capacity of a mental health professional and is a cost effective means of supporting more people in the community. I’m proud to be taking on this challenge and appreciate any donations to support this cause by clicking the link below. Every little helps!#YouDoNotHavetoSufferAlone   #BreaktheStigma  #HealthiestHumanSystem*Note: The trek will be self-funded, so all the funds raised will be used solely to support the cause.

Mental health is so important because it impacts all of us - whether personally and directly, or through our friends and family. through the Andean Challenge I hope to raise awareness of the work Relate  is progressing and raise funds to support two programme deliverables: 1. Tailoring the Relate platform and depression screening tools to the Bahasa Melayu (‘Malay Language’) speaking community. There are limited mental health resources provided in Bahasa Melayu, the national language of Malaysia, which is spoken by over 70% of the population. 2. Develop and roll out a culturally appropriate guided online self-help intervention programme for low to moderate depression/anxiety (modelled on IAPT programme in UK). This will double the capacity of a mental health professional and is a cost effective means of supporting more people in the community.  All support for the organisation, whether financial or word of mouth is valued and appreciated.
