Wing Up! is an online fundraising campaign started by Wingman, a team of 5 students from Taylor's University in collaboration with Locks of Hope Association. Our campaign aims to support cancer patients who are undergoing treatment and facing hair loss issues that follow, by fundraising for the manufacturing costs of wigs, that would bring a smile back to their faces. GOAL:Through our campaign, we hope to raise funds for the manufacture of wigs and to spread the word about Locks of Hope Association and their efforts, which could encourage future, possible hair donations and to introduce cancer patients who are in need for a wig but are financially burdened, a platform to apply for a free wig.ISSUE:Hair loss is one the most common and traumatic side effects of cancer treatment for cancer patients. Patients who have lost their hair while battling the disease often feel discouraged and insecure, and would opt for wigs to cover themselves up. Unfortunately, amidst the cost of cancer treatments, the cost of a wig could easily go up to RM 800, and may be out of reach for some financially burdened cancer patients.LOCKS OF HOPE ASSOCIATION:The association is the first in Malaysia to provide a platform for the public to donate their hair to be turned into wigs for cancer patients who are going through cancer treatment. The association plays the role of collecting hair donations, manufacturing wigs, providing wigs to cancer patients for free and donating wigs to organisations such as Breast Cancer Welfare Association Malaysia and National Cancer Society Malaysia. Yes, usually most of the people has hair. But, except for those who have undergone chemotherapy. They may experience severe hair loss which will seriously reduce their self-confidence. They are being tortured by their illnesses and fallen into deep, dark depression. Why don't we let them know that they are not alone in the path of fighting with their diseases? Let's show them the bright hopes from the humanity! The minimum cost of making wig is RM800. Please show your kindness by donating money for making wigs for them🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻. Please let them know that there is always a rainbow after the rain. Your kind act always will be apreciated. I have done mine, how about yours?

My dear family and friends, this is about cancer and all those suffering with this deadly disease. As a medical student, I encounter patients battling with cancer everyday in the wards; Breast cancer, Colon cancer, Brain cancer, and many more. Only God knows the pain that they go through everyday. Not being able to live the life that they once had, do the things that they like and having to have a caretaker by their side all the time to help them with their daily living actitvites. And worse, undergoing various extensive treatment such as chemotherapy, radiation therapy and surgeries which involves removing the affected organs, just to extend their lives a little bit more to be with their loved ones. Only to find months/years later, that the cancer has spread to other organs. Apart from the mental and physical pain that cancer brings, they have to deal with the long list of side effects that comes with treatment. Some of the side effects include hair loss, loss of appetite and weight, bone problems, diarrhoea, vomiting, easily falling sick and the list goes on. The thing is, cancer is curable if it is detected early. Many times, patients come in early but do not have enough money for their expensive cancer treatment causing them to default their treatment. So, in conjunction with Breast Cancer Awareness Month, I am going to shave my head and donate my hair to Locks of Hope where they would make natural wigs out of donated hair for these patients especially children and women who lose hair due to cancer. By shaving my head, I may not get to feel the excruating pain of cancer physically but I would be creating awareness and be able to raise some funds to meet the needs of these patients. I would like you to support me with this cause by donating to help with treatment bills for those who can't afford to pay for them. A little help goes a long way. All donated money will go to patients who can't afford treatment through various organizations. Please support my cause and make a change in another person's life. Thank you very much. My story is a story of a beloved friend who ive lost 8 years ago. Almost lost his life but 96pints of his numerous friend's blood, saved him. He survived 3 years after that. A man with multiple brothers and sisters in him. Had chemotherapy after that. He always complain about his bald head and i will always assure him how good looking he has with his sharp features protruding from the surface of his face. Never did it occur to me that i could have supported him by trying to feel like he did. Naked, stripped off the crown of head besides knowing the fact that time is short. Time is short and i do not know if tomorrow will ever come. Said he. True. It's been 8 years and i have to do this in loving memory of him. If tomorrow never comes, support today.

在前几年前知道了 Locks of Hope 这一个专页，是为一些癌症病人筹集头发以制作假发。心里给自己的答案 ： 我的头发长了我也要捐出去!留了快3年的头发，就在前天 02042017 完成了它的任务~在剪的时候，身旁很多人都问：你留了那么长你舍得剪啊？我都给他们的答案是 ：那些化疗的病人在化疗过程中，一夜之间头发掉光光，他们很难接受。可是我们把头发剪了，还能再留长呀。所以有什么好舍不得的呢？有钱出钱，没钱出力。只要能尽到一份善举，能帮到别人之外，也能为自己积福，何乐而不为呢？

Within this half year, she was started with chemotherapy every 2 weekly. Unfortunately, her condition is unstable causing Doctor to withhold her chemotherapy. She routinely travels to the hospital for treatment and it all depends on her condition whether or not she is fit for chemotherapy on the admission day. Due to she is unable to sustain her daily living, Locks of Hope Association would like to call for help from the public. Locks of Hope Association hopes that the public could donate some medical fee as well as little living expenses to help this lady. Above patient, Yong Siew Kee, 50 years old, is a Mechanic (Self employed – unable to manage due to cancer). In March 2016, he was diagnosed with stomach cancer and has done partial gastrectomy. After partial gastrectomy, he is unable to tolerate solid food as normal people. He is solely depending on enteral feeding (milk powder and nutritional products). Unfortunately, in October 2016, endoscopy was done and the report has shown tumour recurrence. Patient is already unable to work and is taken cared by his relative rotationally. Currently, he is admitted to hospital to receive treatment. All the medical expenses are bare by the insurance but patient hope that could get help from public to reduce the burden of his relative. I could not even bare the expenses to travel from Perak to KL for chemotherapy. Now, I need to travel to KL twice a month for treatment and also scan. I have just completed the first cycle of chemotherapy last week. Doctor told me that I would need to undergo a total of 6 cycles of chemotherapy. Doctor also informed that I need to rest for a few months after completion of chemotherapy. All these while, Locks of Hope help cancer patients to raise funds for their medical expenses, but this patient couldn’t wait for our help. Today, I would like to make an exception; I would like to help the deceased so that she can rest in peace. I hope that we can help the deceased family to overcome their difficulties.Hereby, I would like to represent Locks of Hope Association to pay the last respect to Mdm Looi. Due to the expensive medical fees that she needs to bare, she is doing part time cleaning job and at the same time continue her chemotherapy. In April 2016, she again was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. This time, the cancer cells had spread to the right breast, bone, and skin. In July 2016, her skin condition worsens, causing her limbs to swell and pain. Because of this, she is unable to work at all. At the same time, she could not afford to continue her chemotherapy treatment. Hereby, Locks of Hope would like to help her to raise funds for her medical fee and also living expenses. In August 2016, my spine has given up on me and I am paralysed. Doctor told me that my body is very weak, unsure whether my body could continue with radiotherapy or chemotherapy. I already can’t support my own living. I hope that through Locks of Hope will help me to share to the public to donate for my living expenses and also medication cost. Undeniably hair is important to everyone, especially woman. A woman's hair remains a symbol of femininity and beauty. When a woman is losing her hair, her self-esteem is seriously affected. Frankly speaking, at first i am reluctant to cut my long hair as I love it so much. I am afraid to lose them. But then I realized that the same feeling goes to the unfortunate cancer fighters. Besides going through all kinds of suffering and pain throughout the journey fighting to live, they also lose their hair battling with cancer.Thus, in October 2015, I joined Locks of Hope Association hair donation campaign to donate my long hair. In September 2016, I donated my long fringe.As I know by contributing as a hair donor or a fundraiser in wig manufacturing, with a little help, we can help the cancer fighters to become pretty, happy and confident again.So, let's donate for a good cause. Instead of cutting your hair and leave it in the saloon, then the saloon will send it to ajinomoto factory to make ajinomoto, why not donate it to cancer survivors?Cancer survivors need our support to help them to fight over their cancer. So, if you have a long hair now, no matters what colour, or what type of hair you have, you can cut it and donate your wig to Locks of Hope. I have been keeping long hair for 11 years since secondary school. Short hair was never in my hairstyle list previously. I know how important a beautiful long hair is to all girls. But I understand that battle with cancer is not easy. Chemotherapy cause hair falls. Big courage needed.So, I decided to show my support to my loved one and all brave fighters !!!
