Lily is my English class teacher and was my sister's teacher 2 years ago. She is a great teacher and my family and I are very fond of her.Her son, Alfie, got very sick. His bone marrow does not produce enough red cells (aplastic anemia).I participate in an open water swimming challenge with my classmates: we will swim around Middle Island in Hong Kong for more than 2 kilometers. This is my first time to swim in the ocean. I'm scared, but I am trying my best to help raise money for Alfie's medical treatments. Please also visit our blog for more details;https://cm1swimchallenge.wixsite.com/mysite Thank you very much for your support!Naomi

My name is Natasha, I am in CM1C and I had the great chance to have Lily as my English teacher this year. When I learnt about the Ocean swimming challenge for Alfie, Lily's 6 YO son who is very sick, I decided to participate right away. I cannot participate to the challenge in 10 days because we left HK for summer break however I was proud to put all my heart and energy in the trainings with my schoolmates for Alfie until I left. Lily taught us to give the best of ourselves.

In CM1C we love our teachers Aline and Lily!when Lily’s son Alfie was diagnosed with a very nasty disease, a swimmer close to the group launch the great idea for us, her students, to challenge ourselves with an open water swimming challenge to show our support and raise money to cover hospital fees! I am proud to help my teacher. Please support my challenge ! We welcome all donations through this SimplyGiving website (a small fee will be deducted from your donation, for the service provided by SimplyGiving), or directly to Alfie's family’s account if possible:HONG KONGBank Name     HSBCBank Account No#   503 566176 292Bank Account Name Lily PINCKNEYPayMe: to +852 6801 2588  , or simply scan the ‘PayMe QR code’ shown above, to donateUKBank name: Lloyds BankAccount no: 00521412Sort-code: 30-98-74Account name: Lily PINCKNEYBank name: Lloyds BankAccount no: 00092485Sort-code: 30-96-61Account name: Charles P PinckneyLast but not least, any extra, unneeded amount from the fundraising, will be donated to the UK's NHS , the Hong Kong Children Hospital , and charities linked to Aplastic Anemia.

My wife and I were recently enjoying lunch at our local bistro. At the next table, a mother was explaining the concept of " fundraising" to her young daughter (yes ... I was eavesdropping). It turns out that the teacher of her daughter, has a son, named Alfie. Sadly, Alfie has been diagnosed with aplastic anaemia (bone marrow disease). When the mother explained that the fundraising involved a swimming challenge, my ears perked up. I rudely interrupted and asked the mother for more details, explaining to her that I am very much involved in swimming/coaching, and offering to help in any way I could. That evening I got a call from Patrice, a well-known Hong Kong open water swimmer. We had a long chat, exchanged ideas and decided to meet that coming weekend to start training the kids. My daughter Charlotte and some of her teammates have also joined in coaching and supervising the training sessions. The Challenge - swim around Middle Island approximately 2.5km of open water swimming. It has been three weeks now since we started training, sometimes in quite tough conditions (storms, rough waters, occasional jellyfish and sadly a lot of plastic). This EXTRAORDINARY group of 9-10 year old kids have had to overcome the fear and anxiety of swimming in open water (beyond the shark nets) and have shown incredible spirit, dedication and most of all heart, in support of their teacher and her son. Funds are being raised to support Alfie's medical bills. In these difficult times, any act of kindness would greatly appreciated. Jérôme

Himy name is Ellie and I am ten years old.I'm raising funds to support Alfie's medical care. Alfie has a rare condition called aplastic anemia (bone marrow disease). For that, I'm joining some of my classmates on an open water swim challenge, to raise awareness on Alfie's disease, to raise funds for his medical care and to close this school year by working hard together for a good cause.I have now been training for 3 or 4 weeks and I've realised that swimming in the sea is surprisingly harder mentally than physically.I'd be grateful if you can help us and thank you in advance - please write a message which I will read with pleasure!Thank you, merci.

I thought I would never swim 2.4 km but my teacher's son is ill so I'm going to do it.My mother thinks I swim well but sometimes i can be very clumsy while swimming. My mother also thinks I swim like a frog. I have never swum in a club before.I'm going to try my best on that day and swim on and on without stopping. I learned how to be resilient. Now I really want to help Lily and Alfie because they need resilience too.

“ Set the bar high !” is what our beloved teacher Lily taught us, the bilingual classes of CM1 C&D of the French International School of Hong-Kong. Thanks to Lily ( our English teacher) and Aline (our French teacher) we did our best to achieve academic excellence despite this troubled 2019/2020 year marked by protests in the city and more than 4 months of homeschooling due to the Covid-19 pandemicWhen Lily’s 6-years old son Alfie was recently diagnosed with aplastic anemia (bone marrow disease), we decided to challenge ourselves in solidarity with what Alfie and Lily’s family are going through. We are 16 CM1 C &D students willing to overcome our fears, train hard and complete an almost 2.5km open water swim in solo or in 2-kids relay around Middle Island, on  Saturday 11thJuly 2020. Weather has not dented our determination - we had faced a few storms recently but continued with our swim and were rewarded by rainbows. Hello, My name is Louis. I am 9 years old and I already took swimming classes in the past but then I stopped. I enjoy swimming but I got motivated the most when was told about this challenge and what subject it was for. When my mum asked if I would do it or not, I wasn't sure I was going to say yes. This is a big challenge for me, as I had never done any open water training for such long distances before. We are training for a total distance of 2.5km, to swim around Middle Island in Hong Kong.  We are training every Saturday and Sunday mornings, whatever the weather forecasts! We have trained under the rain, in scorching heat, and with a storm !  I do this with my school friends for Alfie, my teacher's son who is sick.
