World Youth Alliance Asia Pacific

Hi! I’m Nielly Clarete, a volunteer for the World Youth Alliance (WYA) and I along with my co-volunteers am launching this fundraising campaign because we believe in and have personally witnessed the impact that WYA does to youth around the world. My first encounter with WYA was in 2018 when I joined the Asia Pacific Summer Camp in Pandan, Antique (Philippines). That camp experience moved me to help launch this fundraising campaign. As a camper, I took  the WYA Certified Training Program (CTP) along with other young people around my age (some even younger!). The CTP is a short course about human dignity and the different ways this is manifested in society. I read about the stories of Nelson Mandela, The Dalai Lama, Viktor Frankl, the Solidarity Movement in Poland, and many other readings and historical text that demonstrated the importance of seeing people as people with dignity and to not see people merely as objects to be exploited.I honestly did not expect to spend my summer reading and contemplating about topics on human dignity, freedom, solidarity and international human rights laws but in the end, it was an opportunity that allowed me to face and understand fundamental truths about myself, people, and society. I learned about ideas that later helped me ground my values. I was so moved by our discussions both on an intellectual and emotional level that it not only made me realize my role in society, but it also empowered me to be more proactive. More than ever, I believe in the work of WYA in training the youth to become leaders of change. Please help me support the work that they do by donating! Funding the camp makes sure that more young people like me will receive the same life-changing experience. The money we will raise through this campaign will be directed to WYAAP to help fund the Summer Camp program happening this June 3 to 8 in the Philippines. My friends and I hope to reach P20,000 by the end of this campaign. Expenses will help cover venue rental, local transportation, food and lodging of campers and trainers, and camp materials like booklets and manuals.

Do you believe that every child deserves an opportunity to grow and realize his worth? We do.Hello! We’re Louie and Steph, volunteers of World Youth Alliance (WYA) in the Philippines. Every day, on our way to work, we see a lot of street children roaming the busy streets of Manila--usually begging, if not finding small opportunities to earn a few pesos for their meals. As volunteers of WYA and other humanitarian organizations, we have met and interacted with street children who do not receive quality education and have very little clue about their worth and potential. Some don’t even have a family or a place to call their home. Recently, we encountered a project called the Human Dignity Curriculum (HDC) which aims to teach children from ALL backgrounds about their worth, teaches them how to make better decisions, and teaches them the importance of values such as friendship, excellence, and what it means to be a “hero.” We realized that through this simple curriculum, we could reach out to these children, empower them, and hopefully give them a strong sense of purpose. This simple fundraiser is our way to make this initiative happen and we hope you could join us in this meaningful journey.By donating to this page and helping us reach our goal, you will help us visit a community within Metro Manila, teach 30 to 50 out-of-school youth and public school students (perhaps more if we are able to reach our goal or even surpass it) with 7-8 sessions of the HDC per class. Funding from this campaign will also help provide our HDC students with writing materials, worksheets, certificates, and other HDC activity materials. It will also help fund our (volunteers) trips to the site. What’s inside the Human Dignity Curriculum? When roaming the streets of Manila, it’s not difficult to notice the harsh environments that many out-of-school youth and children, in general, are exposed to or are a part of; a lot of impoverished children belong to abusive environments, violent gangs, and broken families. These circumstances impact a child’s development and how children end up viewing their worth. The Human Dignity Curriculum is an educational program for children from kindergarten age up to their teens. It aims to teach children and youth about human dignity--who they are and who they can be, and how to make responsible decisions. Through working with schools and other non-academic organizations, we help provide children and youth with an opportunity to deepen their understanding of themselves, understand the value of respect and friendship, and promote a sense of purpose.Since the HDC was launched in 2016, it has taught more than 100 children in the Philippines--children both from formal academic institutions and from impoverished communities like Tondo and Payatas. For many of them, the HDC sessions were their safe haven. In the HDC, children are taught about dignity, the power to choose excellence, taking care of oneself and others, friendship, and other themes. These values are communicated through interaction with the teachers and their classmates, games, poems, drawings, and other group activities. In the end, we only hope for them to build a strong sense of purpose and a foundation of values that they will carry throughout their lives. In the coming months, we will be implementing the HDC in another community of our choice and we need your help to make it happen! Below are some quotes we’ve gathered from past HDC teachers, partners, and graduates:“For the children, a simple activity is so much more (than we realize).” - Kleine, WYA volunteer, and HDC teacher“I learned how to give importance to another person’s dignity and to choose what is right.” - HDC graduate“Hopefully the HDC can push them to work hard and to achieve their dreams.” - Zarina, HDC teacher, and former WYAAP RDO“Just imagine if every child learns to realize that each of his playmates has dignity, how impactful this can be in the future, and even for the whole world.”  - Kleine, WYA volunteer and HDC teacherAbout World Youth Alliance (WYA)Founded at the United Nations (UN) in 1999, WYA is an international youth NGO that advocates for human dignity. A Brief History of World Youth Alliance (WYA)    The World Youth Alliance (WYA) began in 1999 when 21-year-old Anna Halpine stood up for human dignity during a conference at the United Nations. Since then, WYA has grown to include tens of thousands of members around the world with six regional offices, all dedicated to the defense of the dignity of the person through education, culture, and advocacy.        World Youth Alliance is an international non-profit comprised of individuals committed to promoting the dignity of every human person through policy and culture. WYA is a United Nations ECOSOC-accredited organization, and works closely with the UN, the European Union, as well as local and regional organs in defending the dignity of persons from all walks of life.             WYA believes in the intrinsic, inviolable, and universal dignity of the person; in the family as the most fundamental unit of society where we learn how to live in genuine freedom and solidarity; and in integral human development characterized by physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional growth.               WYA invites all those who share these convictions to join them in affirming them and give them effect in public life at all levels.     The Story of World Youth Alliance Laguna            The year 2016 proved to be another milestone. World Youth Alliance Asia Pacific (WYAAP) officially launched a new Provincial Chapter in San Pablo City, Laguna, Philippines. In a time where human rights is in its most relevant and challenged state in the Philippines, the discourse supporting its principles has never been this necessary. With this challenge, ten (10) youth from the province of Laguna, with their utmost passion on humanitarian affairs, decided to formalize their ideals and strong support to human dignity. Through the leadership of Ms. Lorie Anne Cruz, a Certified WYA Member and WYAAP Emerging Leaders Conference (ELC) Alumna, World Youth Alliance Laguna was made official last December 13, 2016. The Chapter was formed out of the founders’ intent to promote and build a positive environment for the youth of Laguna, Philippines. From starting with just four core members, it has now grown into a family of thirty two (32) members from across the 24 municipalities and 6 cities of the province. Through sharing the mission of WYA, they believe that they can educate the youth about respecting one another despite differences in one’s culture or social background, and about the value of creativity in initiating positive impact in one’s community. Ms. Cruz started her involvement in WYA as an online trainee of the Certified Training Program. Having successfully completed the training program, she then hoped to bring WYA to the lush community of San Pablo City, Laguna as she and her friends yearned for an organization that promoted the dignity of the human person. Besides Lorie, the WYA Laguna Chapter will be under the leadership of its core team members, Abegail Talavera, Clyde Villanueva, and Kenna Evangelista.    In line with this, we are seeking for your support through monetary aid in order for the WYA campus tour to materialize. Your donation will surely leave a mark in the future activities and events of the organization for the citizens of the province. These are the objectives of our event: a.    To explain the history of World Youth Alliance, our charter and our advocacy. b.    To fully understand the importance the dignity of the human person and why do we need to defend it. c.     To explain the role of human rights in protecting the dignity of the human person. d.    To explain how arts and culture can affect the authentic development of the human person that is inclined to our intrinsic dignity. World Youth Alliance Asia Pacific

Hi! I'm Donna de Jesus. I first joined the World Youth Alliance in 2004 (First batch of externs for Asia Pacific!). WYA is a nonprofit organization that works with young people all over the globe to create a world that nurtures the dignity of the person - through advocacy, education and culture. As an intern, I was given the chance to work with and learn from other young people from different cultures; speak with leaders at the United Nations about our concerns; and work at the grassroots level to help other young kids understand and value the dignity of the person. Those were amazing opportunities I wish other young people will be able to experience too. More than ever, I believe in the work of WYA, and I want to help raise awareness and funds for the work that they do. I'm dedicating my second marathon on February 19, 2017 to WYA and hope to raise at least Php 42,000.00 for them. Please click donate and help WYA continue their work -inviting young people to their internship program, empowering youth, celebrating diversity, and promoting the dignity of the human person. Whatever amount we raise with your help will be matched by another generous donor. (If I beat my time from my first marathon, the donation will be multiplied by 1.5! If you'd like to pledge the same, and push me to run faster, please get in touch with me at [email protected] ) Please cheer me on by donating to World Youth Alliance! Any amount will go a long way. Your support means so much to me and WYA! Thank you!!! Please visit www.wya.net to know more about the work that they do.
