My name is Sovan Nay, and I am currently 17 years old turning 18 this year. I currently live in Australia but my blood and my hometown is Cambodia. When I was young, I was one of the people who are always sick all the time but my parents didn't have enough money to send me to expensive hospital or anything but there is a hospital named Angkor Cambodia for Children which run for nonprofit that helped me and saved me. So that is why for my 18 years old birthday, I want to raise some money and include some of my money to give help back to the hospital and the other children like me who have no money but need to access and the treatment and I would also to give thanks all the doctors who spend most their time to help and save young Cambodian children.

Angkor Hospital for Children (AHC) is a non-profit pediatric teaching hospital that provides free, high-quality, and compassionate health care to children in Siem Reap, Cambodia. Founded by Friends Without A Border in 1999, the hospital has provided medical care and health education to over 1.5 million children across Cambodia.AHC’s mission is to improve healthcare for all of Cambodia's children by creating a sustainable, replicable model of a healthcare institution in cooperation with the Cambodian government.Angkor Hospital for Children was founded on the belief that every child has the right to a healthy life. Since we first opened our doors in 1999, we have provided more than 1.5 million treatments to Cambodia’s poorest children and their families, have been officially recognized as one of Cambodia’s few paediatric teaching hospitals and have created wide-reaching community outreach programmes.World-renowned Japanese photographer Kenro Izu first visited Cambodia in 1993 to photograph the magnificent Angkor Temples. Kenro was deeply touched by the resilient children he met during his trip, often missing arms and legs due to landmines and other unexploded ordnances. During his stay in Cambodia, Kenro witnessed a young girl, the same age as his own daughter, die simply because her father could not afford $2 for medical care. It was then that Kenro decided to found Friends Without A Border and give back to the country that inspired his photographic journey. With the help of the international art community, health care professionals, and more than 6,000 supporters from around the world, Angkor Hospital for Children opened its gates in 1999. Kenro founded Angkor Hospital for Children on the principle of building a hospital for Cambodian children, run by Cambodians. Following Friends’ model of Treatment + Education + Prevention, AHC has created a sustainable, replicable model of a health care institution that provides high-quality medical care to all children, regardless of their ability to pay.

It is my pleasure to participate in the Angkor Wat International Half Marathon for the third year running! The atmosphere of the participants and spectators will be electric as we run through the famous temple of Angkor Wat and, at Angkor Thom, the Bayon temple with its countless sculptural decorations which are world class! But more importantly, the funds raised go to supporting the Angkor Hospital for Children, a cause close to our hearts at Manulife! Decisions made easier. Lives made better.

Growing up my primary school teacher took us to a blind orphanage which also functioned as a school. Every year for the six years I lived in Egypt we went to share our toys, baked cookies and our time to sing Christmas carols together. Children’s health and education are dear to my heart and still recall with how little you can make others less fortunate smile and comfort. These children from back then have taught me a lot and I try to give back. Tomorrow I run for Children here in Cambodia, Angkor Wat. If you can, please support and shine a light with me by donating.

Manulife is committed to helping people live healthier, more active lives. As part of our sponsorship of the Angkor Wat International Half Marathon in Cambodia, Team Manulife runners are raising money for the Angkor Hospital for Children (AHC) for the fifth year.Cambodia’s public healthcare system has made impressive gains in recent years, and poverty continues to fall. Despite this, children still die from preventable causes, like diarrhea, pneumonia and infection. AHC’s vision is that all Cambodian children will have access to high quality, compassionate healthcare. Wherever they live, and whatever their ability to pay. All treatment, medicine, and follow up care provided by AHC is completely free.  As a result, AHC needs to raise a total of US$6.5mn annually. Hello there friends & family, Even though there have been some vast improvements to healthcare in Cambodia over the last two decades many health challenges remain for children. Nearly half of all children in Cambodia are suffering from malnutrition, which makes them more vulnerable to illnesses, many of which are preventable. On top of that, quality, affordable health is limited especially in rural areas where 80% of families still live in poor conditions. That is why as many as 500 families travel across the country every single day to AHC, to receive free, high quality healthcare, like nowhere else in Cambodia. We are running to not only improve healthcare for Cambodia’s children but to help AHC transform it. Please donate to help us reach our fundraising target. Every donation counts!

So I did a crazy thing earlier this year and said I'd run a half marathon in 2019 and signed up for the Angkor Wat Half Marathon. The race is on 8th December 2019 in Angkor, Cambodia. I will be running the Half Marathon (that's 13.1 miles / 21.1 km), and I have never, ever run a race before, unless you count the 1500 metre race in school over 20 years ago. So I am looking for your support to keep me motivated. There was no point running for fun, so I am raising money for the Angkor Hospital for Children (AHC), which provides care and lifesaving treatment to children in Cambodia. Your support, will not only encourage me to complete the race (I sure need it), but you will be supporting the amazing work the hospital does in raising the healthcare standards for the children in Cambodia. They rely on donors like you, since only 5% of their operating cost is subsidised by the Royal Cambodian government.Your donations, no matter how much they are, help towards a bigger goal and will go towards supporting the work of the AHC.Here are some of the ways in which your donations will help:US$10 will sponsor a child to receive physiotherapy treatment (that's about the price of 2 cappuccino's US$15 supports a dental visit for a child US$25 supports nursing at AHCUS$50 sponsors 3x counselling sessions for children of abuse or neglectUS$100 will sponsor one child to receive cataract eye surgeryUS$250 will sponsor 24 hours of intensive care for a premature babyUS$750 will sponsor one closed heart surgerySee my updates on Twitter (https://twitter.com/iAmMohammedAli) and Instagram @iAmMohammedAli Oh and to make it really gruelling for myself (because signing up was crazy enough) I am aiming for a finish time of 2 hours or less - eek! So did deep guys and girls, help me stay motivated and help the kids of Cambodia. Thanks for your support,Mo

I started running about 5 years ago when my friend who was about the same size and built as me took on the challenge to run the full marathon. It was inspirational to me back then and I was thinking to myself, if she can do it, so can I! Along the way, I have met with many people who have discouraged me and told me that it was so difficult to complete the marathon, especially at the point of 30km mark, that would be the time where most would hit the wall and yet still have another 12km to cross. I wanted to discover for myself exactly how difficult is difficult. I didn't want to live on other people's experiences, I wanted to know how it feels like to go through it myself. Through it I have also learnt that it is very important to know how to encourage others. It doesn't matter how fast or how slow we take to cross the finishing line, what is important, is that we have crossed it. All of us have different challenges in life, it may be completing a run, it may be looking after a child, or it may be managing a difficult project. Nobody will really remember the pains that we have while going through the ordeal, at the end of the day, it is how we celebrate the completion of the task and what you are being remembered for. Today, you have a chance to make a difference to someone's life. The Angkor Wat Half Marathon aims to raise money to provide medical care for children in Cambodia (the Angkor Hospital for Children, AHC). For any small amount that you contribute, you will be able to improve the healthcare for Cambodia's children. The amount no matter how big or small touches the hearts of those who are on the receiving end, and any amount goes a long way to bring a smile onto their face.  Will you make the difference to their lives today?
