Abdi is a 2 year old Somalian boy who is in need of a liver transplant and needs urgent attention. He also has another younger sister who is 1 month old, and his parents are in need of support for his surgery. I first met Abdi through his dad, as he was looking to be a chef with PichaEats to support his family. Abdi's mother is currently looking after him and his sister at home.Currently, he is only depending on monthly medication and his condition restricts him from breathing normally. The doctor only gives Abdi months to live without the transplant. This surgery will save his life and give him a second chance to grow up.Dr Hartini Zainudin and Syed Azmi are also currently working on this case right now and we would appreciate all the help and support we can get.

DONATIONS ARE OFFICIALLY CLOSED, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SUPPORTING OUR CAUSE! We are a group of students from across Malaysia participating in a leadership program named Program Kepimpinan Tun Razak under the purview of Yayasan Tun Razak. We were given a Corporate Social Responsibility themed task and one of the main objectives is to bring joy to a group of people in need. Our group chose to fundraise for Yayasan Chow Kit because YCK fights for a cause which is close to our hearts, which is providing quality care and service for the overall well-being of underprivileged children. We also resonate with YCK's tagline "Every Child Matters" and thus are fully motivated to join the cause. Our group has set a target of RM1500 and all donations will go directly to Yayasan Chow Kit to further their cause. The fundraising will run from 9am to 1230pm today. We appreciate all donations and please help us to reach our target. Thank you!!Please contact Kamilah Aina (+6011-10713911) for further info

Our son Leo was born just under 33 weeks. Thanks to your prayers and support, we are excited to be marking his 100 day milestone on 8 July. While there is much to celebrate and be grateful for, we also recognise that there are families out there who are struggling to make ends meet due to economic hardship brought about by this pandemic. So we'd like to ask you, our family and friends, to join us in celebrating Leo's 100 days by giving a little bit towards 5 single-parent families who have lost their income. Our friends at Yayasan Chow Kit need RM3500 to support these families for 3 months. Each family will get RM200 per month, and they're raising a little extra for one family that also requires assistance to pay rent. We hope you will open your hearts and wallets... even a little goes a long way. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for celebrating our son's first 100 days milestone in this meaningful way.

It's my birthday in two weeks, and my first time doing a fundraiser for a cause that is dear to my heart. Give if you can - even $5 USD is 20 Malaysian Ringgit so anything helps and makes a difference. The kids need all the help they can get right now. The number of at risk children in Malaysia is growing by the minute and it just breaks my heart. Yayasan works with at risk children in a country where monetary help is scarce and hard to find. Look at their website for more information:https://yck.org.my/about-yck/what-we-do/Thank you my friends. Yayasan Chow Kit, "Every Child Matters"

Yayasan Chow Kit was incorporated in 2010 but before this, we were a children’s programme under Yayasan Salam Malaysia, a local NGO which looked at connecting volunteers and corporates to community projects and community needs. We were then called, Nur Salam, which literally means ‘Light and Peace”- so we were the ‘house of light and peace’ for children or in other words, a sanctuary. NurSalam was born out of a need to help and protect the children in and around Chow Kit, who were vulnerable and marginalized. YCK’s founder, Dato Dr Hartini, inclusive of Raja Azizan and Kak Arfidah, had worked with the children there for a long time and they knew what the children needed most- a bigger space where very poor and marginalized children could seek refuge, even if it was, for a couple of hours a day, eat and sleep and get involved with basic educational and health activities. The three of us put our heads together, and hatched a plan to find this bigger space.. We partnered with the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development and the Wilayah Social Department and then engaged with other individuals and corporate bodies and NGO partners. We looked for funding- we asked, begged and did everything ourselves. It was a tough, uphill battle when we first started but we kept at it! The rest, is history!

Why Donate? We have started this fundraising campaign in order to provide Financial aid for Chow kit’s households and children in the event of an emergency, based on their requirements like documentation, health services and any other necessities.Yayasan Chow Kit is a place where children who are in need or marginalised can take refuge in order to grow up in a safe environment. Through this fundraising campaign, we hope to help Yayasan Chow Kit to continue to support the children who are in need. Yayasan Chow Kit offers a variety of services to these kids as they grow up. Some of these services include helping the children apply for school, providing a shelter for the children, birth certificate application and many more services in order to make sure the children in their care will be able to grow up in a nurturing environment which will help further develop their personalities so that they can become successful individuals in the future.Due to these challenging times we have set a goal that may not seem like much, however, it is a time like this that makes it an emergency for a lot of Chow Kit’s households, so the smallest donation can make the biggest difference so we are hoping to support them to the best of our ability. Yayasan Chow Kit’s ImpactThe work done by Yayasan Chow Kit has improved the lives of many children and families in Chow Kit. One of which would be a family consisting of only a Mother and a child. They were in a tough spot with money so a social worker from Yayasan Chow Kit helped them to be able to get financial assistance. This has drastically improved their lives.“YCK has not only helped me, but also helped my mother. My mother is a single mother and sole breadwinner who has to care for me and my many siblings as our father had left us without any savings.” Ali, teenage student at Yayasan Chow Kit.We hope to help Yayasan Chow kit save and drastically improve the lives of many more children, and we can only do so through the contribution of our community. About UsWe are team Empower, a group of 6 students representing Taylor’s University. We are aiming to help our community through fundraising in collaboration with the Yayasan Chow Kit organization to be able to save and support the lives of those who are in need in Chow Kit. Thank you for supporting us.

I'm a Malaysian girl from Ampang who went to school in Lai Meng and then Chong Hwa, and eventually went to college in London and grad school in the US. I'm now a psychologist practicing in Florida in the USA, providing counseling services to college students. As most of the world is probably witnessing, issues of social injustice and political unrest have been on the rise in the US in recent years. With this backdrop, I continue to develop and shape my identity as a person and an early career professional. Issues of mental health and social justice have grown to become a cause that is very important to me. Something I personally grapple with is my distance from home, and as a result my inability to directly contribute to my own community back home, as I continue to live and work in the US. So for my birthday this year, I would like to raise funds for Yayasan Chow Kit, a 24-hour crisis and drop-in centre providing meals, activities, therapy, case management, and educational programmes for at-risk children of Chow Kit, an area in central Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia. Here is their mission statement and the link to the organization's website for your reference: YCK Mission: We protect the rights of all at-risk children and youth, provide them with safe havens, and expose them to as many positive and holistic opportunities as possible to enable them to reach their full potential.YCK website: https://www.yck.org.my/

"It’s been a terrible year for Yayasan Chow Kit, financially. Even though we are blessed with loyal supporters and friends who rally to our side when we wanted to support a sick child or family, we find it difficult to keep ourselves afloat for operations and our social workers programme or to fix the roof, support our safehouse and staff in PJ or pay to renovate our house in Langkawi or kickstart our programmes there. We only have 7 more months of funding to keep ourselves afloat while we lobby and campaign for bigger grants to be approved. This is a first for us! It’s never been so dire. So we’re trying to do smaller funding initiatives to muddle through while we restrategize, reframe our programmes and help more children than ever before. From now till the 31st of December, I will be sharing the kinds of work we do and our programmes. How much we need per pillar and programme. How many children and families it affects and what it means to us if you we could hold on to your generosity and love for just a little bit longer. While we don’t want handouts, it would be great if all of our YCK friends would consider investing in us a little bit more than usual. Times are hard. Corporates are looking for different kinds of initiatives. Love the idea of social entrepreneurship and impact investments and Return of Investments. We want to do it too. But all of this takes time. In the meantime, some of us still have to deal with sick kids, hungry kids, kids who need alternative education, rent, water damage and putting a roof and providing shelter for vulnerable children.
