Back in early 2020 I decided not to cut my hair as a result of the pandemic and I would grow it until the world found a vaccination or a cure (it could be a mid-life crisis in disguise).  Now I have no excuse to keep these golden (grey) locks.  So I will cut 1 inch off per Rm1,000 (USD $250 / AUD $320) raised with the goal of surpassing 10,000 ringgit. The money raised will go to Dignity and Services, a local charity here in Malaysia, that empowers people with learning difficulties obtain some opportunities of independent living.  Money raised will help fit out a new bakery (Bake with Dignity) which provides employment for these people. I came in contact with Dignity & Services when I was searching for an organization that could help my high functioning autistic (Asperger) son have a future.  I was so happy when the then Executive Director of D&S, Ms Mettilda John replied my email and from than on after a few sessions with my son Rudi,  he was accepted into Dignity & Services new project that is One Two Juice Stall (a CSR Project in joint collaboration with Selangor Dredging Berhad).  Dignity & Services gave my son a future and he is still working in this Juice Stall since 2011 until today with a few other PwLD.Being a non-profit organization, D&S relies solely on public donations to fund their programs for these young adults.   Being a parent of a child with learning disability, the best I could do is to also help out in getting funds for an organization that has helped people like my son.  I therefore have decided to take up this challenge during this D&S Virtual Fundraising Run by pledging to walk 1km for every RM10 donation from all of you out there.  If you support my pledge by donating RM30, I shall walk 3km and so forth.  My target is to at least raise a fund of RM1000 which is equivalent to 100km walk over 8 weeks cumulatively from 25 Apr 2021 till 20 Jun 2021.  The more you donate the more I will walk in support of D&S.   We are all in one spirit.  Together we shall make it!   I sincerely hope you all will support my pledge and help me raise as much as I can for the support of D&S and these PwLD.   I thank you all in advance for your kindness and generosity.   P/S:  You may click on the link above to learn more about Dignity & Services.

This is an NGO who is working for and with adults with learning difficulties which includes Down Syndrome, Asperger, autism, dyslexia, ADHD and other developmental delays.This NGO resonates with me because no matter how different we are, we want to feel safe, be accepted and included, and live independently within our community.So do donate generously if you can via this page while I will do my best to achieve 50kms within 10 weeks. Everyone Can Run is an annual event that I try not to miss. 2020's edition was not held because of the pandemic, but Everyone Can Run 2021 is now going to be held virtually. Tickets are still available.I hope to have many of my friends and family support the good people of Dignity & Services by contributing to their cause. When I came to Malaysia back in 2000 I met the inspirational paediatrician Dr Sam Abrahams. Dr Sam co-founded Dignity and Services (D&S) back in 1991 to work and advocate for and with adults with learning difficulties. I was and remain inspired by its' mission to create a society where persons with learning disabilities enjoy dignity and respect, equal rights and opportunities to lead an independent and meaningful life within the community. The  founders have passed on but the organisation continues and I really enjoy volunteering my time to help support. D&S Options teaches life skills and provides essential fellowship, the bakery Bake with Dignity teaches too and provides dignity and respect though employment and a salary. And by its' advocacy, with government bodies, and in the community not least through the wonderful EVERYONE CAN RUN EVCR now in its 5th year, DNS raises awareness about learning difficulties in this fully inclusive event. Together these make real difference in the lives of many individuals families and the wider community. This year EVCR has gone virtual. But instead of limiting us, this has expanded the event from one day to everyday and from one venue to everywhere. Using virtual technologies such and Strava we are able to connect people. So donate rm100 and we will run 10k, 1000: 100k = our target is 15,000 thats 1,500km or at least 5k per week for  30 runners over the 10 week period! Challenge us and raise money for a great cause.   A wonderful family event, EVCR Fun and Fundraising Run raises awareness as well as providing sporting challenges! As a company we have focused our CSR on Dignity and Services supporting Social Enterprise Bake with Dignity serving their wonderful signature Salted Caramel Fudge Brownie at our restaurant and  SHUCKED outlets and as a Big Fan regular giver - getting one delicious  catered lunch for our staff.

My Life Changing Journey with Persons with Learning Disabilities   I was given the amazing opportunity to be part of Dignity & Services (D&S) team 6 years ago and thus began my wonderful and life-fulfilling journey with this NGO that champions the needs of persons with learning disabilities (PwLD).Getting to know ‘Persons with Learning Disabilities’ opened up a whole new world to me. As fascinating as it was, the road was also filled with challenges that included a lot of self-reflections, life-changing questions and conscious effort to balance the fine line between work and personal life. Several times, I was mentally so exhausted that the thought of giving up flashed through my mind. However, each time I look upon this special needs group and saw the pure, innocent joy on their faces for simply being, living in the moment and enjoying the simple things in life; they remind me of the original reason I am here with D&S and the fulfilment I get for the good and honest work we do.Their childlike, innocent trust in people and acceptance of the condition they were born in, was their way of teaching me invaluable lessons about patience, compassion and unconditional love. They have inspired me to hold on and forge ahead on this winding road filled with challenges at every turn of the corner.Through my involvement in D&S, I was part of the fundraising event organising committee and realised the great financial struggles D&S face to keep afloat to continue supporting the PwLD community.Being a non-profit organisation, D&S relies solely on public donation to fund its work. There is no other source of funds to bear all the cost and expenses that is needed to support and educate the PwLD community towards self-growth and socio-economic independence.To this end, I am going to contribute in my personal capacity and taking up a challenge out of my comfort zone during the upcoming D&S Virtual Fundraising Run event. I pledge to run 1km for every RM10 donation from you. If you support my pledge by donating RM50, I shall run 5km, and so forth.
