"With about 30% of breast cancer (cases) still being diagnosed in the third and fourth stages, we encourage all women to make the first move and go for your mammogram, and do so regularly," Dr Shyamala Thilagaratnam, group director of outreach at the Health Promotion Board told The Straits Times.This year for breast cancer awareness month, we want to support breast cancer patients and their families in these trying times. We intend to brave the shave and try to raise some money for the Breast Cancer Foundation, a non-profit organisation with the mission to eradicate breast cancer as a life-threatening disease. It is committed to empowering and supporting everyone affected by breast cancer by providing monetary and essential needs. Donations made towards this foundation since 2011 have been able to distribute a total of RM 455 300.00 to 184 breast cancer patients to help reduce the overwhelming feeling many families face with medical bills and funding their daily needs.Cancer patients lose their hair when undergoing chemotherapy. And this is something that affects a person on a deeper level than they realise. Survivors and fighters shouldn’t step out in public feeling ashamed about their hair loss. So what would be a better way to convince them of this than by going bald and standing by them as a symbol of our support throughout their recovery.Patients are more than just their illness and beauty is more than just your hair. It’s about having an inquisitive mind, a courageous heart and having a kind soul that can give hope to those who need it most. All hair donations will be made towards the Locks Of Hope Association, in hopes of being able to reduce wig prices to be more affordable for people affected by chemotherapy or any type of hair loss. “Support the fighters, admire the survivors and honour the taken”
