EDUCATION FOR REFUGEE CHILDREN? Education is the passport to the future. Everyone standing on this God's green earth should have the right to quality education as education is truly the only way for us to grow as individuals. Good education also allows us to shape a future for ourselves that we desire regardless of our socioeconomic background. The need for quality education for refugee children is even further accentuated tenfold as the education journey of a refugee child is disrupted, whether it’s from fleeing their home country or faced with trauma, their education levels would be severely affected. Even if a refugee child does end up in Malaysia without those trials and tribulations, these refugee children are still denied by the national education system, forcing them to pursue other means to obtain this education.WHY FUGEE SCHOOL?This is where FUGEE school comes in. FUGEE School is a non-profit education centre for refugee children living in Malaysia that is supported by the United Nations High Commissioner For Refugees(UNHCR). FUGEE School was founded in 2009 and is currently based in KL with students aged from 4 to 20 years old. FUGEE school ensures that its students are given the necessary education to survive in modern society. As we have illustrated earlier, refugee children face immense challenges, fleeing their home countries and dealing with the traumas of displacement. Education isn't a luxury for them—it's a lifeline. FUGEE School is tackling this head-on, bridging learning gaps and nurturing self-reliance to build an inclusive society.OUR MISSION Our mission is all about championing equality and access to quality education. As students ourselves, we hold a fervent belief that education is a universal right, transcending socio-economic backgrounds which connotes the fact that we believe that quality education should be made available to all. DID YOU KNOW?In 2023, over 180,000 asylum seekers sought support and safety from the UNHCR in Malaysia where over 49,000 were children under 18. Since refugees lack a legal status to access public services, this leaves them with alternatives such as, community schools and NGO schools supported by volunteers and donations from the public. However, there are still many obstacles for refugee children to attend these schools due to location, resources, manpower and capacity.Fugee School is one such NGO which focuses on providing holistic education to the refugee youth and one of the few which provides secondary school education in Malaysia. Through this project, we are collaborating with Fugee School with the mission of ensuring that these minority has access to quality education to widen their opportunities for a better future and further educate the public on the needs and problems faced by refugee children.Your contribution can be the lifeline that refugee children need, offering them a chance to escape the cycle of poverty and despair. WE NEED YOU!!! EVERY RINGGIT MATTERS!!!Fugee School was founded in 2009, and is a non-profit education centre for refugee children living in malaysia. Many refugee children have gone through trauma and many have been out of school, we believe going back to school is the first step towards rebuilding their lives. Through education we see transformation and rehabilitation and children empowered to reach their potential and build better futures for themselves. Fugee School currently has 130 students age 4-20 years old from over 5 countries. Seven Kids has 7 caring and supportive individuals from Heriot-Watt University Malaysia who are trying to make a difference for the future of these children.The objective of our project is to ensure that more underprivileged students are given the opportunity to learn and have access to basic education, this in turn will provide them a chance for a better future. In order to achieve our goal of collecting RM 5000, we will carry out more activities and events in the future. "You're In, Not Out" is a phrase upheld by the Fugee School, and we strongly agree with it as it connects with each of the members' impact statement in a way. DID YOU KNOW??Over 1 Million Malaysian Children Are Not In School & Other Problems With The Education System, Says Former Minister Former Education Minister and independent Member of Parliament (MP) Dr. Maszlee Malik revealed that there are 2.7 million children from poor Malaysian families who don’t have enough money for school spending and that there are still hundreds of schools across the country that are in deplorable conditions.Full-hearted for FUGEE’s Future has 15 caring and supportive individuals from Heriot-Watt University who are trying to make a difference for the future of these children.The objective of our project is to ensure that more underprivileged students are given the opportunity to learn and have access to basic education, this in turn will provide them a chance for a better future. Founded in 2009 by Deborah Henry and Shikeen Halibullah, FUGEE School has provided access to education for up to 500 refugee youths from 11 different nationalities, aged 4 to 20. Today, they provide 200 students with a holistic education, equipping students with more than just academia, but life skills and hands-on experience for real world preparedness. RM150/month helps educate one child at Fugee School.COVID-19 has created a compounded effect that has exhausted their reserves. Hi, my name is Ryan. I will be turning 11 in March 2018. I am a very lucky boy, and I am very grateful for my parents, my sister, my friends, my dog and my school. I would like to fundraise so that the children at the Fugee School can also have a good education. I think it is very important to help the less fortunate and I hope I can make a difference.The Fugee School is a school for refugees living in Malaysia. They have over 130 students, aged 4-20. Many refugee children have gone through trauma and many have been out of school, and the Fugee School believes going back to school is the first step towards rebuilding their lives.

The recent and ongoing refugee crisis (and those haunting pictures online) are constant reminders to us on how lucky and blessed we are to live in a safe and free country. So instead of receiving gifts for my birthday, I'd like to channel the resources you'd otherwise use to donate to this worthwhile cause. Help me put 18 and possibly more young refugee children take their first steps in formal education, hopefully changing their lives forever. USD750 will pay for their educational resources for a year - including stationary, books an online learning tools. Note: Refugee children do not have a status in Malaysia. They don't have passports, identity cards, access to welfare or education. They rely entirely on charity to get by. By helping these kids go to school, you're potentially changing the lives of these children, and their children's children! After just 7 years of operations, Fugee School has successfully taught life skills to hundreds of refugee children with two of them even being admitted into a private University in Malaysia!
