At the end of November a team of 9 including: George Cao, Olivia Lou, Sha Sha Qiu, Jean Lynn, Vanessa Lou, Nikhil Jindal, Pankaj Shah, Kunal Patel and Arun Patel will embark on a journey to work with The Future Village Foundation, a charity established in 2010 by 7 Singaporean professionals. The charity's core efforts support the education of impoverished children in rural Nepal. Snowlands school in the Budhanilkantha district of Kathmandu is a key beneficiary where the charity uses its network, knowledge and expertise to create joint opportunities for learning and cultural exchange between Singapore and Nepal. During 2015 an earthquake crippled Nepal and the emphasis needed to shift to crisis management, repair and rebuild activities. 3 years on there is an opportunity to return to its core focus of education. There are some exciting and innovative workshops planned which include: an E-learning programme; 3D printing activities; Video CVs; the EmpowerHER female leadership project and setting up live video links with an international school in Singapore. Donations will support a number of key areas such as: premises and computer lab rental; teacher salaries; school equipment; maintenance and up-keep. CHILDREN OF THE SNOW LAND is an important feature documentary, which tells the extraordinary story of children from the High Himalayas who are sent to school in Kathmandu and do not see their parents again for twelve years. With the film, we aim to shine a light on the remote communities of the Himalayas to help more Himalayan children to stay connected with their families throughout education. Please support our Going Home Campaign, a partnership with Future Village Foundation, to fund children from the Snowland School to go home and see their families. It costs $2,000 per child for this journey (this covers travel costs, guide, porters, food, suitable clothing, shoes, bedding and tents for the cold walk home across mountains). Every little towards this helps.

In January 2015, we had one of our most memorable adventures as a couple as we hiked the Himalayas. Four days may not seem too long, but besides a dozen million steps, Nepal was able to show us its natural beauty and its people who are among the most humble, persevering and hospitable people you'll ever meet. Barely three months after our visit, Nepal was shaken by a powerful earthquake which killed thousands, many of them children. Countless establishments were ruined including schools.As we get married this January 2017, we would like to give back to the friendly people of Nepal by raising funds with The Future Village Foundation to support the education of impoverished children in rural Nepal. Since 2010, the Future Village Foundation supports the education in rural Nepal for a sustainable future, both them and their community. As the co-Founder of The Future Village Foundation, I (Jessie Lai) have started all the initiatives to support Nepal since 2010. The Foundation supports 3 local projects in Nepal. There are lots works needed after the Nepal earthquakes - funding is critical to support the projects. A group of passionate cyclists (Tanuj Tanmay, Mike Hickman, BeeBee Koh, Ric Sim and Jin Jie Hu) will challenge themselves to ride up to Everest base camp (5200m) for fundraising. The biking trip includes 2 extreme tough rides in Tibet - continuous 32km uphill ride to Kampa-la pass (4780m) and 22km uphill ride to Everest base camp (5200m). The 11 days epic trip from May 22nd will end in volunteering at one of our supported schools in Nepal. The students at Snowland school are all from Himalaya mountain regions. The very tough and dangerous cycling route also reminds us how hard for these students to get the education opportunities by sacrificing not to see their families at Himalaya home for 10 yeas... The raised fund will support education project in Snowland school.In Snowland school, recently we set up a new computer lab with Internet supported by solar power. 6 volunteers went in April 2016 to teach the E-learning & E-mentor program. The Future Village Foundation was established in 2011 to support the education of impoverished children in rural Nepal, especially the Snowland School in Kathmandu, which provides free education, board and lodging to children from the High Himalayas whose parents cannot afford to support or educate them.Children are sent to Snowland School aged 4 years and remain there until 16 years old. During these 12 years they do not see their parents, due to the remoteness of their village.We are helping to fund these children throughout their school years and then funding a home visit to see their families upon graduation. Snowland School relies entirely on donations to survive and we are very grateful for any help you can give.

Growing up in rural Philippines, earthquakes, killer typhoons, volcanic eruptions and other calamities shaped our lives and continue to challenge our existence. I am forever grateful to my parents which despite the hard times, provided me with good education. Now, I feel it's time to give that chance to children who endured one of the worst calamities of these times, some of them have even lost their parents and that chance to gain access to education. My son, Joaquin and I will be taking the Spartan Race Challenge this Sunday, 15th November to support the Nepal Future Village foundation. Spartan race is one of the world's largest obstacle race designed to test endurance, strength and push limits, it would be first in Singapore and our first race together. We would be happy for your encouragement and cheers for this worthy cause.

It’s time for our annual Charity Badminton Tournament. This year we are supporting Nepal, which on 25 April 2015 was struck by a devastating earthquake that has left 7000 people dead, and thousands more injured. In addition, hundreds of thousands of people were left homeless after the quake flattened entire villages and triggered avalanches in the Himalayas. The tournament will be bigger this year. As you know, the April 2015 Nepal earthquake killed more than 8,000 people, injured more than 19,000 and more than 300 people missing. It was the worst natural disaster to strike Nepal since the 1934 earthquake. Hundreds of thousands of people were made homeless with entire villages flattened across many districts of the country. Continued aftershocks occurred throughout Nepal within 15–20 minute intervals and the country also had a continued risk of landslides. A second earthquake occurred on 12 May 2015 at 12:35 NST killed more than 65 people and over 1,200 were injured by this aftershock. As we all know, on April 25, 2015, a devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck Nepal causing widespread destruction and massive loss of life. So this is an appeal to all my friends to donate as much as you can for the victims of Nepal Earthquake.One week after a massive earthquake wrought destruction across Nepal, the country has ruled out the possibility of finding more survivors under the rubble, authorities said Saturday. The death toll from the powerful 7.8-magnitude earthquake now stands at over 6,700.Authorities reportedly said that the focus is now shifting to reach out to survivors awaiting relief supplies in remote areas of the Himalayan nation. Aid finally began arriving in Bunkot, a remote group of villages in the Himalayan foothills, authorities said Saturday. The epicenter of Nepal’s earthquake was the Gorkha District -- about 65 miles from Kathmandu -- which is home to about 270,000 people. Thanks for your support & cooperation. In the aftermath of the biggest Earthquake to hit Nepal in 80 years; many lives have been lost, many more injured, and numerous ancient heritage sites destroyed. It is estimated that 8 million people have been affected by the earthquake. There is so much to do. Power still hasn’t been restored, communication towers are down and the infrastructure in some areas is completely destroyed. It will take long years ahead to rebuild Nepal, but we can provide relief to the affected communities. Relief that is needed NOW.

Given the recent disaster in Nepal I have decided to dedicate a 135 KM bike race I am doing to raise money. There is also slight difference with what I am trying to raise the money for (Please Read Below). To top it off Barclays have kindly agreed to match any money raised for this charity across the board by up to 50K GBP. So there is a very high chance that your money will be doubled which is very appealing!What I will be doing - participating in a bike race in Batam (Indonesia). The race consists of over 1800m of elevation and 135Km of riding. No small challenge but then most of you know me :-) To make sure that's not enough I have entered myself into Cat 2 (way beyond any speed I can sustain over 135KM with the hills included but then I love a challenge!)Please give generously for this cause as the disaster has been absolutely devastating and we can help!----------------------------------A handful of Barclays employees set up the Nepal Future Village Foundation 5 years ago to support child education and schooling across 3 Nepalese districts (1 school in Kathmandu and 2 in the mountainous remote regions of Katunje and Lamjung).The walls of all 3 schools have either completely collapsed or are unstable – this is the children’s home as they live hundred miles from their families in the most remote parts of Nepal. Miraculously, there are no child or staff fatalities at the 3 schools – though it is too early to determine the wider impact · Up to 80% of Kathmandu are now sleeping outside for fear of further tremors and building collapses. The children who usually dorm at the schools make up a very small percentage of the overall impact but are equally suffering with their fellow citizens and find themselves sleeping out in the open with no shelter, low supplies and wet weather conditions. It is only a matter of time before illness and disease sets in· This is the charity that is dedicated to supporting these children and whilst the project for education must take a back seat, our focus remains committed to ensuring the wellbeing of the students and staff· A member of the organisation who is an engineer and has experience in crisis management will be on the ground in Kathmandu (if not already) to support immediate safety and co-ordination, providing supplies (water, rice, medicine, tarp for shelter), lifting spirits and assessing the damage to secure the school buildings· A medical team formed by our doctor friends in Singapore will depart to Nepal soon to work with Red Cross Nepal and the Sir Edmund Hillary Foundation to render medical aidThe link to the charity can be seen here - http://futurevillagesociety.weebly.com/
